KISS Alive 35!

In 1974, KISS came to Detroit and played their first concert at Cobo Hall. In that front row sat a sixteen year old boy at his first concert. He was memorized by the personas that sat on stage; the Demon (Gene Simmons), Starchild (Paul Stanley), Spaceman (Ace Freley), and Catman (Peter Criss). In his mind KISS was the greatest band on earth, and as long they were playing music he would be there with his long hair and acid jeans to listen.
Now that boy is a 51 year old man. The top of his head is no longer a garden of hair and the acid jeans he once wore no longer fit (and even if they did, he wouldn't wear them anyway). Even though he still feels young, he catches himself starting his stories with the words "back in my day...". He was celebrating his birthday with his family when his son handed him an old KISS cd. The thought of the older days made him smile and he thanked his son, as he opened the case. His hands started to shake and his eyes started to water as he noticed the two peices of paper inside that had the word "ticketmaster" on them, and was dated for that upcoming saturday. For him, it felt like he was sixteen years old again.
Yes that man is my father. For his birthday I wanted to be able to take him to a KISS concert. I love KISS and have always wanted to see them live. When I heard they were having a show one last time before they demolished Cobo Arena, I knew I had to go with my dad.
Another great fact about my father is that he is a first generation American. Both of his parents are from Greece, so I thought it would be great to spend the afternoon in Greektown. He had a Gyro and I had a Souvlaki (think of a lamb shish-kabab with the veggies). After eating, we headed on the Detroit People Mover and went to the show.
KISS put on a great performance. It was great to see the vast array of KISS fans out there. There were people as old as my father, people around my age, and then kids 10 years old and younger there. I'm really glad my father and I were able to finally able to go see a KISS concert together. And for my father...he can say he seen the very first and very last KISS concert at Cobo Arena!

Autoshow Craziness

I spent three hours the other day pulling pork...I could barely move my thumbs once I was done! Since I'm on the board of NUHE I help run the concessions for the autoshow (which is next weekend!!!) and the Woodside Grill serves pulled pork...which is pulled by the managers and the board. I'm in charge of making all the signs for the tents too so I've been busy with that too.

The autoshow weekend is going to be really crazy...fun...but crazy. On top of running all the concessions, arriving at 4 in the morning to set up and make food, staying until it gets dark tearing everything down, and working at the front desk of the hotel on campus...one of my brothers is coming to visit who lives in London and I haven't seen him in about 7 months! I'm really excited to see him...I just hope I find some time to actually see him!

I will talk to you again soon!

Pageant pictures

Hey everyone, so I said later in the week I would post some pictres from the pageant. Well here they are. These first two are from the evening gown competition.

These last two are fn pictures that were taken backstage. The first is myself with Jamie of Shelby Twp. She got 1st runner up in the pageant. The second is with Arleigh of Stevensville. Both girls are such amazing people that I am really glad I got the chance to meet them and become friends with them. =)

Northwood Resume

At Northwood you can be more than a student! You see when you go to an interview, you have much more in your portfolio than a just a student with some honor class. You walk in with confidence knowing that you were a Captain for the Largest Outdoor New Car Auto Show in North America, President of the Student Alumni Network in which you and your e-board establish three new programs. To top it all off, you have been selected to be a Student Ambassadors for the Admission Depart that only 1% of the entire student body gets the honor to hold this title. This is some of the main reason I chose Northwood. What’s yours?

God Bless,

The Only Difference Between Disney Land & Northwood is a Degree.

When people think of the happiest place on earth, they often refer to Disney land. Well, in the world of Universities, I would have to say Northwood is right up there with Minnie and Mickey. I can’t help but notice that every day I seem to have a perma-grin J (permanent smile). There is something here that makes people friendly, maybe it has something to do with all of the oxygen we get from our wooded campus, or possibly there is something in the water. Whatever it is I love it! Today I decided that I am going to join The AMA, which is the American Marketing Association, and I am so excited to be a part of that. Also, when I finished up all of my schoolwork, my roommates and I had a mini-basketball-hoop tournament with some of the players on the men’s basketball team. The girls won of course, and I am pretty sure that this is an indicator that the women’s team would beat the men’s team in an official game ;-). But back to point... So maybe Northwood isn’t exactly Disney Land status, but when you go to bed each night with a smile, and wake up looking forward to what this campus has in store for you, then you know you’re at a pretty happy place!

Thanks for reading…some pictures from the football game this past weekend:

Circle K and Auto Show

It's good to know when your surronded by good people, and I really feel that here at Northwood. I just attended the first Circle K meeting of the year and had a great time. For anyone that doesn't know what Circle K is, they are a student organization that basically helps the community through volunteer services. They have a great agenda for the next couple of months and I feel like the sudents really do want to get involved and help people.

For anybody interested in next weekends Auto Show, I just want to drop a hint. I'm part of Team Infiniti and we have some great ideas on how to show off our cars this year!

A third time around...

So these first few weeks of school have been crazy full of things going on. The ESPMA's Welcome Weekend was a new and interesting experience. I had a lot of fun being able to hang out with the guys in A Letter To You who headlined our concert event. They are so sweet and it was amazing to be able to catch up with them. My hope is that the experience of the event will help us how to work things out for next year because it is completely save to say that things could have gone better....much better, but anyways on to more positive things. This past weekend I competed in the Miss Michigan USA pageant, prelims to the Miss USA pageant. This was my third year competing in pageants. I have competed the past two years in the Teen division but now I'm all grown up, haha, or at least I'm growing up. Sadly, I did not win, however I had an amazing experience and had the chance to meet many amazing females. I will stick to the saying of it being a once in a lifetime experience because even if you compete multiple times it's still not something that many people participate in and you learn many different things from the whole experience. As you can see from the picture, I am Miss Roseville USA 2010, it's not a title I won in another pageant, however it is the title that pageant awarded me to represent. I might post a picture or two from the pageant later.

Well, that's about it for now from me, but don't worry I will be blogging again very soon as things are still crazy busy and I have about a million different things running through my mind right now to the point I have created a picture in my head of a current situation I'm in and I think I might try and draw, even though I'm no good at drawing haha

Until next time,

More love, less hate,

Michigan

Walking outside today relized how much I love living in Michigan at this time of year. The weather is nice enough that I'm wearing just a teeshirt and the trees look beautiful as the leaves are changing colors. In a month or two when its up to my knees in snow and I'm trekking along to class I'm going to have to look back at this and try and remember why it is that I DON'T hate Michigan

Not only is the weather beautiful but with evidence of the Autoshow coming up and the new clocktower going up it all just generates excitement. My family is coming to the autoshow and I can't wait to see my little sisters again! My youngest too being of Kindergarden age and younger I'm not able to keep in contact as well with them and I miss them so very much.

Erica's 1st Post (:

Hello- my name is Erica Loroff and I am a Junior/ Senior at Northwood University- Michigan Campus. I don't really know what to name myself considering I am part way into my Junior year and with extra credits and mini-sessions I will graduate by the end of this year (May 2010). I come from out of state, representing Sandusky, OH and it's reputation as being the Rockin' Roller Coast of America (Cedar Point)! I am an RA on campus in the Minor Residence Halls which is for freshman girls, it's my first year being an RA and I have to say I love it. The staff is amazing and I love my freshman residents, it's freaky to know I was in their shoes just a year ago.

These next two weeks are going to be filled with so much going on. Sorority recruitment is this weekend which is going to be long and tiring but come Sunday my sorority will have girls we can call as sisters! Auto Show which is known here is October 2-4 and boy oh boy I can't wait till that weekend is over. It takes so much planning and running around, I can't wait to be amazed for those 3 days than cross it off the list as an event I completed.

Well I'll post more later just wanted to introduce myself and let you know what's going on.

My Room

I was so excited to get a BIG room this year so, I had to show you guys pictures of it. I know it’s so cute RIGHT?!?! Lol

Rock Band Night!

Rock band night! My roommate just bought rock band so now every weekend we have rock band night. It’s a great way to unwind after a long week of classes.

Soccer

So we went and played soccer (which I never do lol). It was funny, I knew I had no hand-eye coordination, but I have discovered that I have no foot-eye coordination either. Lol good times.

yeah that's me running FROM the ball... lol

Junior Year

My first two weeks of class was cool. It feels so weird because I’m a junior now and I still feel like I just got out of high school last month. Lol It has been an amazing journey. And I enjoy being here at Northwood but I have to start thinking about and making plans for what I want to do when I graduate, I’ve been thinking about it but I haven’t made any concrete plans. So I’m going to make an appointment with career services to start looking for opportunities in my field of study. And I have an appointment with my academic advisor to complete a completion plan to ensure that I am on task with my classes.

Hey Everyone!

I'm Marie Zaccagni and I am Junior here at Northwood University. I am majoring in ESPM (Entertainment,Sports, and Promotion Management) and also play on the Women's Soccer team. Between school and soccer it takes up a lot of my time but I still try and have fun with friends and get involved as much as I can with school activities. I'm excited for this year and to blog to you all everything that is going on at Northwood University!

The Weekend!

I had a great weekend in the city of Midland! This weekend the church reloaded went out to the beach for a bible study. We cooked out, played some games and had a great study! This will be my second year leading bible study on campus.
You can see more pictures at www.thechurchreloaded.com

One of the things I love about Northwood is our student life. I feel like Northwood has something for everyone to get involved in.

Well I have to get back to class,

A new face...

Hello everybody! With this being my first blog I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. My name is James Cahilellis and I'm a junior here at Northwood. I transferred here from Mott Community College in Flint and am currently working on my Entertainment, Sports, and Promotional Management degree. Some cool things about me is that I was born and raised in New York City and that I love baseball! I hope everyone enjoys reading my blogs and I will talk to everyone later!

-James Cahilellis

Hi everyone! My name is Bethany Brown and I am a junior here at Northwood. I am double majoring in Advertising & Marketing/Business Management. I am a transfer student from Central Michigan University, and this is my second year at NU. I transferred here to play on the Women’s basketball team, and I absolutely love it!

Since this is my second year at Northwood I have moved from the dorms to on-campus apartments, and it is amazing! I live in Naegle Village, right outside of Dubois (male dorms). Last year I met so many friends in the dorms, but it really is nice to finally have my own room! I live with 5 other women basketball players and we have a blast at our place. There is a lot of room for entertaining friends, and having an occasional dance contest :-).

Last year our team made it to the Division 2 National tournament, and it was the first time in school history for Women’s Basketball to do that. We just started practice again this past week, and our goal is to make it back to the tournament again, only this time we plan on winning it!

As well as being a member of the basketball team, I have taken advantage of some of the many opportunities Northwood has to offer. I am a Student Ambassador, a member of Church Reloaded and Last fall I was a member of team John Deere at Auto Show. Unfortunately this year I wasn’t able to join an Auto Show team, but I am looking forward to seeing campus transform into an Auto lover’s dream in the next week. It really is amazing to see.

Looking back on my past year at Northwood I can honestly say that transferring here is one of the best decisions I have ever made! Thanks for reading!

Fashion in Detroit!

I have been working my butt off making this dress for Fashion in Detroit. The show is October 1st and 2nd at the Detroit zoo; it’s going to be set up like Bryant Park during New York fashion week. I’m so excited! I’ll keep you posted on how the show went.

Church Reloaded

Church Reloaded is this fabulous faith based organization on campus. They host some really fun events. I went to the Church Reloaded camp fire, omg so fun. We played dodge ball in the dark! Lol…. If you’re interested in attending service they meet every Thursday at 7pm in the Griswold lecture hall. It’s great and the people are amazing and friendly and so inviting. Get active, get involved there are tons of things to do.

Welcome back

WELCOME BACK!!! This is my first blog of this school year, and I just wanted to say welcome back to all of our returning upperclassmen and welcome to our incoming freshmen. This year is going to be amazing; there are tons of new organizations and events to get involved in. In less than two weeks we will have auto show and our homing dance. Auto show weekend is so much fun last year it was insane! So I look forward to meeting all the new faces, have fun and have an enjoyable and productive school year.

Success

Only at Northwood can a student meet with a real world business person to discuss business decisions. I am captain of team Mitsubishi and have a meeting with General Manager of Showcase Mitsubishi in Bay City to discuss the layout of Northwood Auto Show. I cannot thank God enough for putting me on the path to success at Northwood University.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

26 Hour and No Sleep

So I couldn't sleep last night AT ALL. I tried just couldn't do it. I don't have my computer hooked up to the internet so I was really glad for the 24 hour computers in the purple lab. Helped pass some of the time where I couldn't sleep. Now I'm sitting here on the same computers and still not sleeping because if i go to sleep now I'll miss my next class.

After class I'm than going to Zoar, Ohio for a reenactment so maybe I can catch a few z's in the car. (I'm not driving) As long as the radios not to loud I guess. Thats going to be a long car ride though.

I need some sleep.

NU-Life

Well, it is always nice to have an easy day at the wood, especially after all long day of working at the NU-Kickoff party for the Student Alumni Network. As I was working the show, I thought about how far I have came in since my freshman year at Northwood...

I started out as a no-body just living for the world letting it pass me by. Now I have seen the world by having a chance to do a 6 week mission trip to Central America thanks to an organization called the Church Reloaded. Spending 6 weeks in a whole another culture sharing the good news can change a man’s life.

Now I am back at Northwood sharing what I have done all summer, with my friends. It always amazes me how much you can change over the years. I talk to some of my other friends that go to other schools about their summers; most of them work back in their home town, living a life same life as in high school. It just makes me think about how good I have it at a school that will help push you in the right direction and makes the opportunities to succeed.

Well I hope every one has a great day, I have to run to class.

One year down...Three more to go!

Hey guys,

I can't believe summer is over and it is already the second week of class. It seems just like yesterday that I was a freshmen. "Fresh" to college and the Northwood Experience. Living off campus I definitely miss the convenience of the dorms and the excitement of being on my own. It is still going to take some time getting used to driving to class, rather than walking.

I spent the entire summer working back home. But I did go on vacation to Clear Water Beach, Florida with my roommate from last year. Here is a picture of us parasailing ( I was terrified!!)

Getting into the routine

Hey I'm Tricia (Patricia) and I'm a freshman here at Northwood University. I'm also a student ambassador. I'm a Civil War Reenactor and I love to read, write and act. I don't really think there is anything more about me that would be that exciting.

I'm just starting to get the hang of collage life, such as if you come back from class and you have class in two hours make sure you set your alarm clock if you decide you need a nap, or you miss class. Also even if you're a girl, it is possible to get called your father's name in class! Though Patrick and Patricia are really close. And Last, make sure you have snackes of some kind in your room; you never know when your going to miss lunch, or breakfast or dinner!

Oh back to school!

Hey everyone! I'm just so excited to be back at school. I'm a senior this year and this year I'm going to live it up and look for a job. I'm not too worried about it I'm sure there's a job out there some where :). Thanks for reading!

I spent the last three months up north working at the Homestead Resort. I actually lived on the resort and then worked front desk and reservations as my internship. I'm glad to finally be done! It was a long summer but I can't believe how much I learned. Since I was basically in the middle of nowhere for the summer...I painted a lot. I've been painting for about 3 years. Purely just for fun...I use it to get away from reality. Here are the three that I finished. The New York Skyline and the sailboat are for my boyfriend, Chad, and the fire was for my dad for father's day.

Hope you like em :)

Talk to you soon!

Soundtrack of my summer...

So summer is ending and fall is coming. Tomorrow starts classes and I'm realy excited, kind of nervous about tacking accounting but I have a lot of friends I've assigned to be my personal tutor haha. This summer I did a lot of traveling and a lot of working: I went on a road trip to NYC for an interview my sister had, Chicago to work on the Van's Warped Tour, Sandusky for my best friends wedding, Las Vegas to visit my parents, San Diego for Warped Tour again, and of course all over Michigan. Speaking of Wapred Tour, I was very blessed to be able to attend three dates along the tour and only to had to pay to get into one! I had some of the best times of my life this summer. I also learned a lot about the music industry. I've reached the point now where I think I want to be done with the whole booking bands part of the industry; I still want to go into tour marketing though. Also, here is the updated list I promised of all the bands I've seen live in '09 thus far....It won't let me do tallies, so I put the number times I've seen them instead of a tally mark.
