The End, New Beginnings
I cannot believe that I am done with my sophomore year of college in seven days. I can still vividly remember moving in when I was a freshman! The time has absolutely flown by.
It is the end of a lot of things, but also the beginning of some great opportunities. Our softball season ended a couple of weekends ago, but we are already looking toward next year. We will miss those seniors so much, but we also excited for the six freshman coming in! Also, we are having an end of the year picnic with the RA staff, but we've already begun to bond with the new staff for next year. Church ReLoaded will also be celebrating their seniors tomorrow night, but we're already making plans for next year. I am finishing my second year, but I'm so excited to go into my third year of college.
I guess it's just like Jason Reeves says in his song, "The End," "Every ending's a new beginning...it all starts again in the end."
Have a blessed summer!
Until next year,
Katherine

A week in review and so far the best weekend of my life!
So this past week went by pretty quick which makes me happy. =) I had my Emerging Leaders banquet which went well. I'm speech ended going over very well and people laughed so I reached my goal. OH, so since I don't have classes on Fridays my weekends start on Thursdays. So last night I attended the 2009 Alternative Press Tour feat. A Rocket To The Moon, Hit The Lights, Fmaily Force 5, The Maine, ad 3OH!3. It was pretty much the best night of my life. I have never been more sweaty at a concert. After the show, I hung around and got to meet some very cool people from the bands and the AP Street Team (my sister is on that!). The night was completely surreal as I was able to hang out and eat some yummy Taco Bell with some of the guys in The Maine on their tour bus!!!! It was awesome!
Tonight I will be attending the Believers Never Die Tour feat. Hey Monday, Metro Station, All Time Low, Corba Starship, and Fall Out Boy. This show has alot to compete with to top last night, although I do get a Mee & Greet with All Time Low tonight so we'll see where things go. =)
More love, less hate<3

Summer Summer Summertime...
Hello Everyone~
The weather has been so nice lately! It's got me thinking about the summer. I'm so excited to start it off! I will be doing an internship on campus doing event planning. I'm so blessed to have this opportunity this summer. That is a great thing about Northwood. This University gives you so many opportunities to get involved and to have real-life experience. The faculty and staff have so many connections and they help you to make your own. There is a lot to look forward to this summer, but I know that I have a couple weeks left of school. I'll do my best to enjoy the weather and finish strong.

Good Brain Food
A study in the Journal of Physiology points out that the brain is our body’s biggest energy hog. The brain represents 2% of your body weight, and 20% comes from energy demands on our metabolism. In order for the brain to properly function, its takes the right foods to fuel the brain. When it comes time to making those right decisions, you need all the brain power you can use. For example, some students are bad test takers. Some students do not perform well on test even if they dedicated long hours of studying. One of the best ways to help with anxiety attacks is to pray that you do well and eat a nutritious breakfast in the morning.
If you’re a person who has short term memory, it is recommended that you drink coffee because it is the ultimate brain fuel. Researchers have found that coffee helps improve attention and problem-solving skills.
Blueberries are a good source for long term memory. They can help improve your thinking process, and they help protect the brain from fee- radical damage and limit the risk of diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The antioxidants in wild blueberries have more brain-boosting nutrition’s in them as well which helps power the brain.
To help you think better on your feet, try eating salmon or mackerel. The fatty acids found in the fishes are good protein and are primary building blocks of brain tissue. It can also slow the rate of cognitive decline.
Get the protein that you need by eating salad with vinaigrette. The oil in the dressing will help slow down digestion of protein and carbs. Salads also stabilizing blood-sugar levels and keep energy levels high.
To help you focus and boosts performance, peppermint tea helps you to concentrate and make you more alert and less anxious.
Ground flaxseed helps a certain area in the brain that processes sensory information, including pleasure. It goes good with salads or mixed into a shake or a smoothie. It is as good source that improves the cerebral cortex.
Eating healthy will lead to a longer life and can help cut out a lot of stress and excessive weight gain. With the right foods, the brain will enhance your memory, long and short term, help you think on your feet better, gives you energy and stamina , and also helps you concentrate.

Summer Internship!
When I was working at the Chef's Challenge two weekends ago, I was introduced by my professor to one of his old students who works at the Homestead Resort in Glen Arbor. I talked with her for a while and she asked what I was doing this summer. I told her I was still trying to figure that out and she gave me her card and told me to contact her and she would see what she could do about getting me a position for the summer. I sent her my resume on Monday and got a call on Tuesday from the Front Desk Manager asking me and my friend, who also talked with her, to come up so he could interview us. So, we went up there and ended up both getting front desk positions for the whole resort! It's so beautiful up there and it's right on Lake Michigan. It's still unbelievable to me that this happened in a matter of two weeks...I got a dream job of mine to work at a Resort after only my first year at Northwood!
Talk to you soon, Willa

New Roomate!
So I'm currently living off campus and my current roomate (who is the best roomate ever!) is a senior and is moving out. So now that this year is coming to an end I will be moving out and in with a soon to be sophmore who is pretty cool. It's just funny because this is her first apartment and this would be my thrid. She's so excited and she is always asking me "arn't you so exctied!!" and all I can think about is moving my bed down three flights of stairs! Don't get me wrong I am excited about moving it's just that I've done it every year since I've been at school. I felt like sharing that funny little thing. Thanks for reading

Results of NFA the National Forensics Association competition
Just in case you were wondering about the results of NFA the National Forensics Association competition. We came in at 9th in our division. My teammate Emily Dimet broke into the quarter finals for informative speaking this year. She became the 4th person in the history of the Northwood University speech team to ever break to this point. Our team is continuing to improve and grow and develop into a true force in the forensics world. Next year we are planning to keep moving forward and improve our ranking. Thank you for your support!
