I love my job! Working for Student Ambassadors has been very rewarding for me. I’m seriously thinking about going into Marketing and Advertising. LOL!!! Just joking. I love Economics, Banking & Finance, and Management. It’s a challenging major, yet very rewarding if you love what you do.
It has always been an issue of mine to get up and talk in front of a group of people but now I love it. I can do it and not be shy. I’ve been told that I have a soft voice, now when I speak, I have a lot of passion in my tone and I am very enthusiastic. I love Northwood and I’m glad I decided to attend.
As a Student Ambassador, I have stepped out of my comfort zone of being a shy person. Now I love to talk and I don’t mind being center of attention sometimes.
I had a bus tour today with a group of high school junior students. We had a good time touring campus. They were engaged and had a lot of questions about Northwood and my experience here. I learned that people really love to talk about themselves and give others helpful advice. This group of students left a great impression to me and I only hope that they took a lot from the tour and the advice about life and academics that I gave them.
Thanks for visiting!!

Date Night
My date with Mr. Dreamy was a first of many to come. He was so sweet and a real gentleman. In the last blog, I had mention that we went out to dinner at Red Lobster and to the movies. We saw paranormal activity. In my opinion, it was very scary, and I didn’t like it at all. To me, I didn’t really understand what was going on as far as it being a documentary. It didn’t make a lot of since to me. All I knew was that the lady was possessed by a demon that had been following her since she was a child. I continued to haunt her as she grew up and moved in with her boyfriend who was murder by the demon which had control of her body. When strange things started to happen to her it took affect on her and her boyfriends’ living arrangements. I had no clue why it was following her, or where it came from, or why it chose her and why it did the things it did. We never found out key points of the movie that I thought was important. The story was not put together very well in my opinion. What made the movie scary was the fact that unforeseeable things were happening, you saw shadows, and TV’s turning on by themselves, and also things moving around on there own. I kind of felt like I was in a haunted movie theater for a moment. I’m already a chicken when it comes to scary movies, and I can say that this one scared the heck out of me, but I had Mr. Dreamy next to me to hold my hand. That was an awesome night.

I love my home
One of my biggest fears when leaving home and going to school was missing home. Well I have come a long ways sense then. I feel more home at Northwood than I do at home. Sure I have my days when I miss my mom’s cooking but I love it here. The best part is that we all belong to the same family when you come to Northwood no matter what’s your major everyone here loves business and everyone knows each other making a big family that will stay with you the rest of your life.
Well I hope you all have a bless day!

Weekends @ College
Well, today is another day…Monday, the beginning of the week for most of us. The weekend is now officially over and its time to get back to work and get focused on classes, meetings, and projects.
“What really happens on weekends for college students”? “What is there to do”?
Most of us look forward to parties, hanging out with friends, going to the movies or bowling. Some people like me are more settled and reserved, I don’t attend the big scene of parties that often.
I went to the movies this weekend with a very good friend of mines to see Paranormal Activity. It was a scary movie and it had me shaking up afterwards. I had to pray after I saw it. I don’t believe in that stuff but it is known to happen and some people actually spend their lives studying the dead and demons. I’ll leave that profession to those who love that kind of work. I’m staying far away from that kind of activity.
Any who; I had an amazing weekend. The reason for that was because it was my birthday weekend. Yay me!!! I also went out to dinner with Mr. Dreamy a.k.a my friend...lol. We had dinner at Red Lobster, caught a movie, chilled under the stars, talked and laughed all night. I really enjoyed myself and we both had a good time.
To find out more about my college weekend experience stay tuned to the next blog.

Hey Guys!
I thought I would show you a few of my teams action shots from some of the games this season! We're winding down to the end of the season with only a few more regular season games left. Then we have the GLIAC tournament. This year it is especially exciting since our team has not made it to the tournament in quite a few years. So this is a new experience for us all! This weekend we play at Grand Valley and Ferris and also next Friday our last game against our rivals Saginaw Valley!
Have a good week!
Marie Zaccagni :)
The paper
What’s 30 pages long and weights about one pound? I will tell you, my marketing project. At the beginning of this term the class broke up into small groups to discuss and create a business. Are assignment was to creative a business plan for our e-commers business (internet business). If there is one thing I learned at Northwood is to get a yearly start on your long term class projects. While other teams are stressing out trying to push through the weekend doing a 30 page paper, my team is taking it easy putting the finishing touches on our power point. I guess the old sane is true the early bird gets the worm.

Well I have to get back to doing so more homework ;)

Internship
I recently received an internship working in the marketing field, but not as a Marketer but as an assistant youth pastor. What does this do with Marketing? Everything! I am involved in viral marketing, internet marketing and branding at the church. I love my major, every business, organization, church and even government’s need marketing! I am gaining real world experience in the marketing field doing a job I love. If I am all ready working in my field as a student, I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Well I have to get back to work.

Be Open Minded
I ran into a situation a few weeks ago where a very good friend of mine told me something I didn’t expect to hear. She said she over heard a few ladies that we both had class with, mention my name in a conversation they were having. I understand that this is hearsay, and I usually go straight to the horses’ mouth when I hear something like that. I like to come to an understanding about things when I don’t agree with people, and find out why or what makes them feel or think that way. And it helps avoid a lot of conflict and prejudgment of others. Well the word got back to me stating that some individuals don’t like to work in groups with me because I ask too many questions.
Here’s a fact; I am a very hard worker, and understanding person. I work well with a lot of people, but then again I guess I don’t. (Lol). If I don’t understand something why not ask?
Here’s another fact; I know that I can’t please everyone, and everyone is not going to like me. But that doesn’t matter because at the end of the day it’s still about me (not in a superficial or egoistical way).Whether I accomplished my task and goals that I set out for that day. Appling myself to the best of my ability. Did I learn something new that I didn’t know before? But most important did I help or advise someone else with the knowledge I already had.
I thought any type of education you receive was about learning something you don’t understand or know from common sense. Asking questions to increase comprehension is the best way to better yourself starting with your mind.
Well this girl seems to think she knows it all already, or has the best answer for everything. I’ve learned from others that cockiness and arrogance gets you no where.
Now of days you’ll run into a lot of closed minded people, but I like to look at them and think to myself, that I don’t have to be one of them.
My advice would be to stay open to people and be willing to help others because you never know what they can offer you as well.

Fall in Michigan
I love the fall here in Michigan. I love the colors of the leaves on the trees. My favorite memories is jumping in to the piles of leaves that we'd just raked up... or that my dad had just raked up in which case I'd have to rerake them.
There are so many trees here on campas and they are all turning beautiful colors. I took a few pictures for everyone to see!

My birthday weekend
Exam week fell ON MY BIRTHDAY!!! The worst of it was I had an exam at 10am!! The day of my birthday. What a birthday gift huh? Well turns out the exam was really easy so I was happy. For my birthday I went to Wolcott Mills and spent the weekend there for a Civil War Reenactment. There my friends all threw me a birthday party! I finely got a camera so now I'm able to take pictures to post on here to show all of you!
With the exception of this being the event we vote in officers so there was too many meetings the entire event went off really well and was a lot of fun. The battle was great and you could DEFINETLY hear Bledsoes Battery's cannon going off! It was REALLY loud. Despite the weather being so cold my toes were numb the entire weekend even with the tent heaters going, we had a wonderful turnout of spectators walking about taking pic
tures and asking questions. I was even able to take a few pictures!
Hope you enjoy the pictures... I was trying to get used to the new camera so they might not be the "best".

Mackinaw Island
I'm going to the Grand Hotel this weekend! Each year a group of hospitality students stay the night at the Grand Hotel and meet the owners, get a tour and eat dinner with them. I bought my dress last week because we have to be real dressed up for dinner-no one is allowed to wear jeans after 5pm inside the hotel. After the dinner we just walk the streets of the island and have a fun time. Last year we met the bridal party for a wedding earlier that day and they gave us all the leftover wedding cake. Who knows what will happen this year...!
New Kitty!!!
Hey everyone I just go my first cat ever!!!! I'm so excited, his name is Jose'... I love him! My boyfriend's cat had a litter and all the other cats were taken so I decied to give the last cat a home! He did have some fleas and I had to take him to the vet today for the first time :( but he is recovering and is loving his new home here in Midland :) Thanks for reading!

This Weekend
This weekend I went on a retreat with the church reloaded! It was one of the best weekends I have had while at Northwood. We went to the west side of the state, left all the homework at home and just learn more about are heavenly father! It was a great time to get all the stress out of my life and just really focus on God. I had a great time and it was just what the Doctor order after Auto Show weekend!

"Differenet World"
"Different World" is a old tv show from the 1990's about a group of black college students from many different backgrounds. It was one of my favorite shows and when I was young I thought that the diversity of cultures, attitudes and beliefs would be one of the best parts of going away to college. I think that as I experience new people, new environments and new situations it becomes more and more clear that I was right. I love the fact that we have students from countries all over the world. It's really interesting to learn about their childhood and their heritage. The funny thing is as "different" as we may seem, I often find that we have so much in common.... lol
Debate on Obama's Healthcare Plan
The Student Honors Association will be holding a debate on Thursday, October 15th in Dubois Lounge concerning the big issue on Healthcare. It is open to students and faulty alike. I am excited about this event because it gives us students a forum to really develop and share our ideas and thoughts on current issues. These are issues that effect us just as much as anyone else and it is very important for us us get involved and take a stand on about major polices. Even if you don't know much about the current debate of what kind of healthcare plans America needs this is a great way to learn more about this issue and educate your self.
Bauervic Essay Contest Topic for 2009
Every year there is a Bauervic Essay Contest, in which students compete for scholarships by writing an essay on the assigned topic for that year. Last year two people from the speech team placed 2nd and 3rd in this contest. This year the topic is:
"Could the discipline of the Gold Standard help the United States return to prosperity in a free enterprise economy?"
Field Trip
Last week the speech team went on a field trip to Barnes and Nobles so that coach could by some book for us to use in our performances. I got the book "The Glass Castle" and we also go a book of short scenes from different movies. In the duo event we can act out scenes from different movies and play parts from all kinds of plays and dramas. It is so much fun and I'm happy that we don't have to pay for anything. Plus we get a FREE credit per term for being on the speech team.
2009 fall career expo
Every year I go to the career expo, I started going when I was a freshmen. A lot of the Representatives there are looking for Juniors and Seniors but because they saw me and I walked around and talked to everyone I was able to make contacts with people from a lot of big name firms. So this year when I go back as a junior I can use my previous contact with these people to give me a handle above the competition.

The Glass Castle

I'm reading this book called "The Glass Castle". It is true story based on the life of Jeannette Wells, a writer and journalist known as former gossip columnist for MSNBC.com. In this book she tells about her childhood troubles and about how her family struggled because her mother and father refused to work. They traveled from town to town never settling down long enough for the kids to go to school. She had three siblings and they all had to take care of themselves. In the beginning of the book she tells about how she set herself on fire when she was three, while making herself some hot dogs because her mother wouldn't cook for her. This book is truly a tale of overcoming, forgiving and moving forward from a tough past.

The R8
Hey guys Dumi here:)
WOW!
That's all I could say when I saw the new Audi R8 at the 2009 Auto Show. It was such a fun filled weekend with a whole lot of things to do . It was our homecoming weekend and we also had the Open House and Auto show at the same time. They were so many cool cars this year like the Aston Martin that didn't even have door handles!! The sweetest car by far was the R8 and it was such a great weekend. Can't wait till next years show!

Hey everyone!
Just thought I'd send you guys a quick message just letting you know about this week. It has been sort of a crazy week with mid-terms and all but it is finally the weekend!! My team had a game at 2 this afternoon against the University of Findley and destroyed them 7-0! We were all pretty excited since the last time we played them, earlier in the season, they basically destroyed us. Haha! Other than that this weekend might just be a relaxing weekend and try to catch up on some sleep!
Talk to everyone soon!

Slam Poetry Finals

Last year I started competing in slam poetry. I love it, it is such a great release of all the stress and tension that comes from everyday living. I write about many different topics and situations that I have experienced. I didn't think I would make it to the Slam Poetry Finals but I did! =) My score during the season were high enough, so I qualified for the SLAM FINALS!!! I was so excited and honored just to be able to have made it that far....
Leek from the ceiling
Today I discovered a leek coming thought the ceiling in my bedroom. So i had one of my roommates call campus maintenance to see what the problem was. They came like less than 5 or 10 minutes later. I figured it might take awhile for them to come check it out, but they came in a heartbeat... They were really helpful, they even offered to help move my stuff over so that it doesn't get wet. They found where the leek was coming from and put in a request for the roofers to fix it in the morning. =)
Apple Tree
Girls are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. The boys dont want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they get the rotten apples from the ground that arent as good, but easy. So the apples up top thinksomething wrong with them when in reality they're amazing. They just have to wait for the right boy to come along, the one who'sbrave enough to climb all the way to the top.Thursday, October 8, 2009
Is there a link between Facebook and Low grades?
Studies have shown that there is a direct link between students who have low grades in college and Facebook. The results of the study taken at a San Diego College, found that students who use Facebook spend less time studying and have lower grade point averages than students who have not signed on the website.
“We can’t say that use of Facebook leads to lower grades and less studying – but we did find a relationship there,” said Aryn Karpinski, co-author of the study and a doctoral student in education at Ohio State University.
I personally think that Facebook has nothing to do with a students grades. If they were not signed up on Facebook then they would find some other way to spend there time. I think that Facebook can be a huge distraction at times but it's more about time management and priorities than anything else.
Poet Dimonique Boyd

Dimonique Boyd is a local poet from Detroit that I adore. She is an amazing writer and performer, over the last year or so I've had the opportunity to learn from her and many other poets like her. She is admirable in the sense that she is true to her beliefs and have taken many steps toward finding her dreams. She has even self published her first book. I am so very blessed to have friends that can help me grow and learn and find my voice as a poet. Her book is called "This is How I Feel: My Life in Verse" and it is an amazing read for only 15 dollars.
Movie Night
My roommate loves the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. She thought it was insane that I had never seen it, so she made everybody watch it.... lol I must admit that it was majorly funny.
The new look of the Northwood website
I just wanted to say that I really like the new look of the NU website. I like that prospective students can now log on and with a few clicks of the mouse gather tons of valuable information about our school, every thing from accreditation to taking a virtual tour. I think it is set up in a way that flows nicely. I think that it may take a like bit of getting used to, for the students who preferred the old set up of the website. Over all the changes have made a big impact!
Latino Students scholarship
Northwood is offering a Latino Student Scholarship for the 2010-2011 school year. I think this is a really good way to help add more diversity to our NU "melting pot"; and to offer assistance to students who may need help financially.
The General Eligibility Requirements are as follows:
- Hispanic heritage
- Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Have plans to enroll as a FULL-TIME student in the Fall of 2010
Yearbook
This year, I joined the yearbook staff, and pretty soon it will be time for yearbook pictures! YYYYAAAYYY!!! We are also looking for individuals, groups and organizations to share pictures from any events or gatherings that they have. We will post a link on blackboard that will tell you how to upload your picture so that they can be featured in the 2009-2010 yearbook. I look forward to seeing your GREAT photos!
The Mall Walk
I love this time of year! A time when you can see the true beauty of God walking down the mall walk at Northwood. At just a glance at the trees your whole mode changes, you began to forget about the test that you’re on your way to and just take in all the fall colors. What a blessing it is to go to a school that is covered fall colors.
Well I am of to that test. I hope you have a bless day!

Reinventing the Wheel: 2009 Autoshow
The autoshow was another great experience for me this year. It is my senior year and I’ve been involved in the autoshow 3 times at Northwood. My freshman year I was apart of Team Saturn. We took home the award for “Most improved Team”. My sophomore year I was on Team Pontiac. Although we didn’t win an award I met some amazing people that I still keep in touch with till this day. This past autoshow, helped me make a lot of connections with students, sales people in the local area, people in the community, and the auto industry. To tell you all a little secret, I know nothing about cars. Lol. I do not own a car myself, but I know how expensive it is for the maintenance of it. It’s always fun to do the autoshow and learn a lot about that industry. The best part of that whole weekend was being able to see the high end cars and as an upper classman, to actually get the chance to drive the cars from the dealership. I had the opportunity to drive two cars this year. Man that was AWSOME!!! Everyone should get involved at least twice in the autoshow if they chose to come to Northwood. I’m glade I did. For my first car after I graduate, I think I’m going to buy a Kia Optima. That is a great car and very nice on the road and the economy.

Somehow during the course of my very busy day I found the time to check out the gallery. I am a huge fan of nature and paintings and portraits that portray natural scenes. The artist did an amazing job of portraying nature in many different perspectives. I really enjoyed it and I think that it is BEAUTIFUL! If you have a few minutes in your day you should stop by and take a look it will be time WELL spent.

I took my last midterm today, in my Merchandise Buying class. It went well; I'm a little anxious to see how I did. I promise I'll let you know as soon as I find out. I'm just happy it's over... well at least until FINALS. lol No, really, that's no laughing matter. Now that my midterms are done I can focus on the research papers I have to do.

NU T-Shirts
I have so many NU t-shirts that I could probably go a month straight without wearing the same one twice! lol... The best thing is that most of them were FREE!!! It's a nice perk, go to the games get a free shirt. I even got a FREE jacket from the excel board because of all of my extra curricular activities. It's simple get involved and get free stuff. =)
NU Style Show
Every year NU students with the advisment of Jill Ouellette, host a style show. It is a major event on campus, with tons of supporters and even a few representatives from BIG name companies in the fashion industry. It is so exciting to be able to show case my designs and even walk the runway. Right now we are just getting started planning for the show and they are now accepting applications for the E-board positions. For an application or for more information check out the link located in the my campus tap of the my.northwood.edu homepage.

I Googled myself just to see what might come up.... ok ok.... I was being a little vain but I was curious. :-) I found a ton of stuff about all the events and programs I've done at Northwood, I even found some of the blogs I've written for this website lol. It was so cool.... I found the score sheet from the poetry finals I competed in at home in Detroit and I found this blog that someone wrote about me because they were inspired by my poems. Wow! It was weird because I thought I would only find a little bit of stuff but I found tons of links. You should Google your self some time it's pretty interesting to see what you will find.
Midland Daily News
Last year I was featured in a story in the Midland Daily News. It was about this tae-bo class I was taking. It was super funny and I mean SUPER FUNNY I laughed for days at the picture alone lol.
follow the link below and take a look for your self....
the caption read:
Northwood University sophomore, LaTerry Aaron dances to techno music between punches Wednesday night at her Tae Bo class in the Hawk Center. Aaron, who was participating in her first Tae Bo class, felt that it was much better than a self imposed exercise program, because "It's easier to have someone else tell you to do this and do that," said Aaron. The class, which is in it's first week, is taught by Northwood junior, Sydney Swetich.
SQUIRRELS FOR SELL
No, not the cute little furry creatures running playfully around campus. The Ladies of Alpha Gamma Delta will be selling paper squirrels to raise money for research to help people with Juvenile Diabetes. The student organization that contributes the most will receive a FREE dinner sponsored by Alpha Gamma Delta! They will be at the tables right outside the Mid-Cafe in Jordan Hall. Put your name on a squirrel! It's only one dollar and it is for a very good cause. I am surly going to buy a squirrel. They will be selling them all week from 10am to 2pm.

Speech Team
Last year I joined Northwood's competitive speech team, it is one of the best organizations I've been involved in on campus. We work so hard all year going to tournaments and competing against some of the best schools in the nation. It is so rewarding, I have seen many people who have improved their speaking abilities and their self confidence by competitive speaking. It's great, we travel all over and meet tons of people from different schools. Last year we came in 7th in our division and we are planning on doing EVEN better this year! We are hosting NOVICE STATES at NU this year, so that will be a great opportunity to come and show some support. I will keep you posted with the date and time as soon as that information becomes available. look forward to see you there!
