Hi Guys!!

I just wanted to blog and tell you about things that have been going on on campus this weekend. Its been an amazing weekend, today it is supposed to get up to 80 degrees and its so nice to see everyone outside walking around and enjoying the weather.

This weekend I've been busy with soccer. Saturday we travelled down to Ashland, Ohio to play against Kenyon and Ashland. We lost the first but beat Ashland which is a great result as they were GLIAC champions last year. Today is awesome and there are baseball and softball games going on outside so i would definitely recommend anyone to go and relax and watch the games in the sun.

Tonight at 5pm the men's soccer team have a game against Saginaw Valley at Midland High School Stadium. So if you have nothing else to do please come along!

Not too many weeks left of school. I just signed up for the Freedom Seminar which is a 5 day long seminar in downtown Detroit and counts towards my 3 credit Business Ethics class. It should be great fun as quite a few of my friends are going and downtown Detroit is always fun.

Community Service

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to inform you about some great community service opportunities that are available to you. The animal shelter in Midland has recently undergone major changes and is looking for new volunteers. You can sign up by joining Cause for Paws, just contact the president of Cause for Paws- Maria Donadio, her e-mail is donadiom@northwood.edu. The shelter is always looking for people to walk the dogs and play with the cats. The hours for the shelter are located on their website, www.hsomc.org.

Another great way to get involved in Midland is to volunteer at Colonial Villa. It is a senior citizen center and they always enjoy company. This past weekend a few of my sorority sisters went there and played Bingo. The ladies there would not stop thanking us, and we enjoyed playing Bingo with them as well! It was a great feeling leaving there knowing we brightened up their day! The number to contact the center is 989-837-2684.

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and check out the men and women's basketball teams tomorrow evening at Northwood. The men play Saginaw at 6:00PM and the women play Saginaw as well at 8:00PM!

Hey Guys!

Can you believe that we are nearly approaching mid-terms already! I cant believe my teachers are talking about it already!

I hope everyone survived that huge snow storm the other day. It takes quite a bit of snow for Northwood to call a snow day. Great job by all the grounds staff on campus for clearing the tons of snow as quick as possible!

With regards to snow, if any of you are big skiers or snowboarders and want to get out on the slopes...Caberfae Peaks is only about 45 minutes away and they have great deals for college students. In 2 weeks on a friday they have $9 lift and ski rentals which is a great price! You can get out a good days skiing and there is always a lot of college kids there which is always fun. Just something to check out!

Also, this week in Midland in the Dow Corning Tennis Classic. This is a professional womens tennis tour event with the highest seed being #76 in the world, so there will be some good tennis on show. On friday it is college night at the tennis tournament. $10 will get you tickets food and drink so definitly something i will be checking out and you guys should to!

Hey Everyone!!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break. I think with the new semester system the Thanksgiving break is much better situated and its a nice break to build up some energy for the last push for final exams. On this last week of classes the library has extended hours and this will also be the last week you can get help from the TLC. Dont just be a couch potato!

For Thanksgiving i went to Orlando, Florida. Im so lucky to be able to explore the States a bit and I had a great time in Florida. I went to Daytona Beach and Universal Studios another day. Definitely something to talk about when I go home, and my family have enjoyed seeing all the pictures.

This week is a crack down on the final assignments to hand in and starting studying for finals.

Deeper Understanding – Fun Learning Environment

So far, my time at the DeVos Graduate School has been very enlightening and interesting. The learning experience is very different from my remarks about the undergraduate program. It’s different in the sense that we are acquiring a much deeper understanding of the materials we’re covering. The learning environment offers everyone a chance to share their input of how they perceived the material. That in turn, enables you to attack the material from different angles and from a much broader point of view. Our cohort interacts and applies hands on experience. For instance, we cover the reading materials and then apply it to a case based learning method. In the end, we’re studying the case from a consultant’s perspective.

DeVos’ approach to a cohort learning environment academically allows us to begin to learn about many individuals viewpoints. From a social standpoint, the cohort experience enables us to build an extended family. My classmates truly have become many of my best friends. We share our thoughts, ideas and celebrate whenever we finish a deliverable or case. What a great experience!

Also, I just wanted to let everyone know that Saturday, November 13, 2010 will be the last home game for the Timberwolves football team. Forget about the weather, and come out and cheer on our team!

Scheduling Week

So this entire week so far has been crazy! On top of my course load I've been trying to figure out what my schedule for next term is going to look like. My time for scheduling was yesterday at 2. Unfortunately for me I didn't look at my curriculum guide which has the list of required classes for my major until the night before. I'm a couple of classes ahead of where I need to be so when I tried to look ahead to what I'm supposed to take next year I saw a couple of elective classes. Trying to figure out what humanities or math/science classes are available took more time than I thought. It didn't help that they were all full either so I'm wait listed for a couple of classes. But I figured out my schedule and am planning on seeing an advisor soon to make sure I made the right choices. Kind of backwards but it worked for my last time.

Hi Everyone!

Hope everyone had a good weekend just passed.

Its an exciting time at Northwood athletically as the football team have their last game this saturday at home. Pre gaming starts at 10am so make sure you get out there and support the team for the last time this year.

Another exciting this is that the basketball team are about to start their competitive season. I watched them play St Francis the other day at they are looking like they might do some things in the GLIAC this year. Their next home game is on Friday, so make sure we get a good crowd!

Scheduling classes is happening this week. Its a crazy time in the Church building so if you need to speak to an academic counselor, please allow yourself enough time. Also, before you go in there make sure you have your curriculum guide at hand. They are really helpful so if you have any questions at all, speak to them, you do not want to be falling behind and having to do 5 years!

The cold weather is coming!! Apparantly it is supposed to snow on friday...crazy

I hope everyones week is going good, not too long left untill we are finished.

THis week the soccer team play in the GLIAC playoffs on thursday against Ashland in Ohio. Wish all the boys the best of luck.

Both basketball teams played DePaul in Chicago. Both unfortunatly lost but played a great game against very strong D1 teams.

ICON: Interculteral Club of Northwood

Being at college I've gotten to know many different people from different countries and cultures. Last year I didn't think to much about it. In my home town there used to people from other countries all the time working with a local missionary to learn to be youth leaders. This year however living with a couple of Chinese students and learning their culture inspired me to join ICON.

The purpose of ICON is to learn about the different cultures here on campus and in the community. I've met more people there that I now consider good friends and became closer to my other friends. Learning to understand other cultures is a good skill to have as the world becomes more and more of a global economy.

As Halloween is coming up ICON is having a party. Many students from other countries who don't celebrate Halloween don't know what this holiday is even about and don't know the first thing about picking out a Halloween costume. Yesterday we went to the thrift stores to help them come up with creative costumes that wouldn't cost them an arm and a leg for something that they'd get to wear one time.

I can't wait to see all of the costumes at the Halloween party next week.

After the Autoshow

This entire weekend was a blast! I left my weekend wide open, didn't have a team and wasn't scheduled for the food tents. The only thing I had to do was give tours of campus on Saturday during the Auto Show Open House. Thursday I helped team KIA put together their display. There was this amazing mural that Alyssia hand painted. Between the mural and the rest of the display there were a lot of things to move. The entire display turned out magnificent.

Friday brought people coming to see the auto show and it was my chance to see all of the displays. I'm not sure I could pick my favorite car. My favorite display was KIA, though I'm partial because my friends put it together and I helped set it up. I loved seeing the European cars, the Harley Davidson motorcycles, and the John Deer tractors. Yes, I come from a small farm town.

Saturday brought the homecoming game which we won 51 to 27. Homecoming king and queen was announced and the 2010 Northwood University Athlete Hall of Fame inductees were announced. After the game I worked at the Woodside Grill, one of the food tents, did the dishes, and went out on a date to with my boyfriend for Sweetest Day.

Sunday brought the classic cars out to the auto show. There were some pretty sweet cars there. Walking through the auto show with my boyfriend and his dog Minnie I went and saw Robb Brent, who is a Northwood Alumni from the class of 2010 who races in the ARCA series. He was there with his race car supporting Northwood and showing everyone the inside of his trailer. He took a picture with Minnie, and Josh, my boyfriend, talked with one of the guys from his team about cars and races. Pretty much everything he's dreamed about since he was seven. After talking to Robb we helped KIA break down than went for dinner. We ate dinner at the cafeteria than Josh went home.

All in all it was a wonderful weekend full of memories I can't wait to repeat next year.

Auto Show!

This weekend, Friday, October 15 through Sunday, October 17 will be an eventful weekend! We will have the Auto Show taking place, Athletic Hall of Fame and the Homecoming Football game! Come and join us!

The Northwood University International Auto Show (NUIAS) is the largest new car, outdoor auto show in North America. We are expecting approximately 50,000 visitors during the three day event and over 450 new cars, trucks, RVs, semis, specialty, and promotional vehicles. This event is organized and managed entirely by students.
This year’s theme is “Electrify the Drive, Sparking a Global Revolution.” Consumer expectations in this area have increased over the past years. Our Auto Show is a great opportunity for manufacturers to educate prospective customers regarding the new technology, the safety features, and how it might differ from our traditional cars. The 47th Annual NUIAS will be featuring several "must see" vehicles. The all new and exciting Chevy Volt will be on display. The Asian division will feature the production model Hyundai Equus—its North American premiere will take place during the Auto Show. Mitsubishi is bringing their all-electric powered car iMiEV from their Ann Arbor research facility and a Nissan Nismo 370Z will be on display. In addition to that, we will have exotic brands such as, the Porsche Carrera GT, a Bentley Continental Super Sport, the Aston Martin Vantage V8, Ferrari 458 Italia, Ferrari California, Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, the 2011 Audi A8L and many more! There will be food, entertainment and much more, so join us!

I actually took part in this great event working for Team BMW and Team Pontiac! It was a great experience because it was our responsibility to design our own display, contact the dealerships and choose what models to have during the show, managed our own budget, learned about the vehicles inside as we were representing the brand. We could even sell a car if we did a good job! This involved hard work and long hours, but it was all worth it. The event was also a great way of networking! I did not participate every year though, and when I didn’t work I enjoyed watching the cars with my friends, and taking pictures of the vehicles.

I would still recommend working during the Auto Show because it is a great addition to your resume. Being part of the event shows your dedication, your commitment and that you are not afraid of hard work. Who knows, you might even end up working for a manufacturer!

The Black Tie! Kicking off the Autoshow!

Wednesday night the Black Tie formal was at the H hotel. This was the first time I'd ever been to the H and I was really impressed, though it did take me a little to figure out how to use the faucet. The food was really good as well, my favorite were the brownies.

The King and Queen nominees were introduced as well as the e-board for the autoshow! After the nominees were mentioned the night of dancing began. I got the privilage of dancing with some of the Chinese students. The songs were fast and the music upbeat making the night a wonderful success in my opinion.

After the autoshow I went home and called my boyfriend, exhausted and happy. My compliments to the students who put on the Black Tie event.

The Brown Vikings at N.U - Continued

Moving to a new country, getting acclimated to a new culture, and beginning a university experience was tough. However, our initial thought of the faculty and staff at Northwood University was that they really cared for every student. They cared about your academic goals and career path. It felt like they were our second family. The warmth we received from them made us adjust to the new culture and college life much easier. Beyond feeling welcome, Northwood’s class sizes made the learning experience even more valuable. The professors had the opportunity to get to know every individual. These aspects made us successful and we were able to fulfill our academic goals.

The questions we would often hear from our peers was usually why we chose to come to Northwood University? We replied, “Because of the outstanding recognition it has globally as a specialty, private university focusing on business – from the corporate world, the automotive industry to fashion – Northwood knows how to develop the future leaders of a global, free-enterprise society”.

Before we moved to the U.S., I had always dreamed to study here and eventually make a career. We had the burning passion to succeed in our academic life, but also to become successful in our path of the corporate world. We heard so many positive things about Northwood University in Sweden and we actually talked with a number of consultants who recommended a number of different universities considering our goals for the future. With the majors Northwood University offers, its outstanding academic recognition, and the contacts Northwood has within the business industry, the choice became obvious. We knew that with this education in our hands, the opportunities would be endless.

Here’s a hint for the many international students who intend to come to a new country. We did experience a minor language barrier during the first few weeks in the U.S. Slang. For instance, we didn’t know that pop was a slang term for drinking soda like Mountain Dew. When we went to the movies and bought popcorn, our friend told us that we forgot to buy “POP,” and we thought he meant popcorn so I replied: “I already bought a big one!?” He replied, “No, pop means Coca-Cola.” So, Google as much as you can to learn about the country you are moving to. Although, a good laugh never hurt anyone!

Hey Everyone!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. The weekend got off to a great start with the Pep Rally. All the Fall Sports teams came out with messages from the captains and free t-shirts, pizza and pop. The cheerleading squad did a great performance and the night ended with some great fireworks.

This weekend was a quiet one for me. I have a lot of homework and tests to prepare for next week so a relaxing week was needed. Its great because many of my friends are in the same classes as me and so this helps to do homework and look over information for the tests.

My favorite class so far this year is Economies of Public Policies. It has been really interested to see how the American spend their money and the effect this has on certain factors. Many of their policies are different to home and I find this extremely interesting.

Busy Day

Yesterday, the 23rd was a busy day. Between classes, the Midland Area Collage Night hosted at the school, the Church Reloaded, the ICON party, and the Pep Rally I was constantly busy. I had two tests in school, one I did really well on the other... well we'll see. After classes I went over to help set up for Collage Night there were a lot of schools there which meant a lot of tables and chairs to set up! But we worked together and got it done and the entire college night went really well.

Later on in the night I went to Church Reloaded where they talked about the Good Samaritan and who our neighbors are. From service I went over to the pep rally and stayed for the fireworks. The fireworks were really pretty! Unfortunately I found out my camera was out of batteries.

After the fireworks I headed back to my place on campus and saw that the ICON party I was invited to was still going on. Some of the Chinese students were making kabobs on the grill. There was music, mingling, and an all around good time.

Sorority Recruitment

Hey!

This past weekend Northwood hosted Sorority Recruitment 2010! Northwood has 3 social sororities on campus: Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Chi Omega and Delta Zeta. About 25% of the female students participate in Greek life. Joining a sorority is a very beneficial experience offering leadership skills, networking opportunities, and friendships that last a lifetime.

About 30 women went through the recruitment process this past weekend. They were super excited to learn more about each sorority and were anxious to find the sorority with the best fit. Recruitment week started on Monday with a mixer where each sorority was present and potentials could meet with the girls and learn more about their sorority. Tuesday night was video night! Each sorority created a slideshow to showcase their organization. On Wednesday night, all the girls headed over to the local Ice Arena for a night of ice skating. This was another opportunity to get to know each sorority in a more relaxed setting. By Thursday night all the girls that were interested officially signed up for the recruitment weekend. Each day throughout the weekend, every sorority had a different activity planned for the potentials and by Sunday morning the potentials had to make their decision. On Sunday night the new members were announced to their sorority.

Sororities are not like what you see in the movies or on television. They are a family away from home, a friend when you need one (or twenty), and support to help you grow.

The Brown Vikings at N.U. (SAIDAL SADIGI)

Moving to the United States almost five years ago was a huge step for me and my brother. Shortly after arriving, we gained the nickname the Brown Vikings. We are from Sweden. Many people found it hard to believe because they perceived Swedish people as having blonde hair and blue eyes. So our American friends decided the “Brown Swedish Vikings” name would fit us well.

Being an international student and coming to the U.S., our first initial thought was the people in Midland were very friendly and accommodating. For instance, I remember standing in line at a local grocery store, and I sneezed. Someone behind me said: “Bless you son.” We did not expect that at all. In my home country that would have never happened. People here are also very curious - especially if you are an international student. The cashiers would often ask questions about our heritage, if we played any sports and why we chose to come and study here. Eventually, we found this place very cozy and friendly.

I grew up in Malmö, Sweden. It is Sweden’s third largest city with a population of approximately 300,000. Everything is very close, especially if you live close to downtown - as we do. Everything can be found within walking distance, by bicycle or using the well developed public transportation system. We learned quickly that in order to move around in Midland, you have to own a car. Even though it’s a small town with approximately 50,000 people, it is still big area wise.

The adjustment to the U.S. was minor. The Brown Vikings quickly made friends and became engaged in many campus activities. Now that I’m a graduate student at the DeVos Graduate School working on my MBA, I am excited to help new international students acclimate to Midland and to Northwood University.

Living with International Students

Coming back to Northwood was exciting for me. I was moving from the dorms to upper classman housing! My first day back a few Chinese students helped me move in. I found out they were my new suitemates. The South Village housing has a stove and I quickly found out they love to cook. As they were Chinese and it was their food they were cooking they encouraged me to eat with chopsticks which I found not as challenging as I would have thought.

The first time I woke up from a nap and all I heard was Chinese it was kind of disorienting. I wasn't sure where I was at first. It's interesting being around another culture all the time. The girls seem to be able to eat more than my boyfriend can. They're not half bad cooks either. I can't wait to see what the rest of the year is like.

Hi Everyone!

Im hoping by now all the new freshman are settled into student living and homesickness hasnt gotten the better of them.

We are already a quarter of the way through the semester and im sure everyone is starting to have their first tests or big assignments. For those of you who havent experienced this volume of work before please make use of all the help and resources we have on campus. This year I have become a tutor in the TLRC (Timberwolf Learning Resource Center). All the tutors down there are great and will help you more than you might think.

On the sports front, the season is not to bad for the mens soccer team. We ve had a couple of tough results but looking forward to bouncing back and peaking in the midseason-end of the season. Please come out and support all the athletic events on campus, speaking from experience it helps a huge amount!

Civil War

So this past weekend I was in Mt. Pleasant at a Civil War Reenactment where I spent the entire weekend in a tent and wool and playing with black powder! There were two battles during the weekend and a game of capture the flag using black powder muskets (NO bullets of course). I myself played on the cannon for the two battles and watched Joshua, my boyfriend play capture the flag. Though it was a smaller event there was a pretty good turnout. I'm looking forward to the next event in October!! Its definitely a learning experience and something everyone should attend at least once!

New Year, New Friends

So a new year has come to Northwood and I'm super excited. During the summer I kept in contact with my Northwood friends over the internet with games of risk. We'd goof off in the chat and throw some friendly smack talk around and gang up on each other until someone finally won. Then we'd wait for the next game. The most exciting thing for me was going back and seeing all of my friends again.
Coming back to school was interesting for me. I met my new suitemates, who were both Chinese, and I begain learning another culture. Living on the outskirts of campus I met some new students that I just clicked with. We've had a dinner party and a surprise birthday party already. And each time the event just brought us all even closer together. I'm excited to have made some new friends, some of them from China, a girl from India, and a few other friends from even more countries. I'm excited to learn from my friends as we grow stronger together.
I haven't stopped hanging out with my old friends just because I've made new ones. The great thing about Northwood is it's a smaller campus. And with more friends I'm always running into one of them either in my classes, or the cafeteria, or even just wandering around campus.
I'm definetly excited to see what the new year will bring after all we're only in week 4!

I hope everyone is having a great Labor Day Weekend.

A big congratulations to the Mens Soccer team who beat number 3 in the nation Lewis University last thursday. This is the highest ranked team the soccer team has beaten in the programs history. Our next game is Wednesday against rivals Saginaw Valley so we need as many of you students to come out and support us as possible!

Today is a day for homework and relaxing before school tomorrow. Lots of things going on around campus in this upcoming week so keep your eyes and ears open.

Hello Everyone!!

Welcome to the 2010/2011 academic year!!

I hope everyone had a great summer. The start of the year has been manic!! I started out with soccer preseason with two practices a day....sorest time of my life! The first week of classes is out of the way today and seems like its going to be a tough semester.

I hope everyone has had a chance to see all the new things on campus. Starting with the small things like the signs and moving onto big things like the cafeteria which looks amazing and also the new weight room and athletic training room which i know for 100% all the varsity athletes are absolutly thrilled about!!

I will keep in touch through the year but i wish everyone the best of luck for the year and welcome to the new Freshman on campus i hope you enjoy your time at Northwood.

Being Independent

Hey guys!

I know sometimes growing up you want to get out of your parents house and do what you want to do. You begin to think your grown when you reach that certain age. Well I'm here to tell you its good to feel that way. But once you get what you've been waiting for you find out that it's not really what you expected it to be. However, in any situation you should make the best out of it.

Being independent takes allot of responsibilities. Its challenging, fun, and rewarding. Adult life is another chapter we all have to go through whether we like it or not. Growing up is another part of life's' experience. I can say for me it has been a good start after college graduation.

August is here already, man how time fly by. I'm excited to see all the school clothes and supplies. I remember those good old days. As a child my mom would take my sisters, and I to the outlets and let us pick out cool clothes and shoes. That was so fun when we could pick up things and not have to pay for it.
Now it's time to be responsible. I have to budget my money wisely now. I'm not spending my mom money, I have to spend my own which isn't to bad. She taught me how to be conservative.

2011 Northwood University

A trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls began as not even a thought to consider. Upon spending some quality time with my friends Ronald van der Spek, Zachary Hackett, and Kathleen Federspiel, all Northwood or former Northwood students, the idea can be credited to Ronald as he brought it up as casually as possible over lunch between the four of us.

Ronald was an international student at Northwood last year. He is from the Netherlands and came to study for one year to progress his education internationally. He became a close friend to my friend Kathleen and I within the past few weeks. At lunch, as Ronald asked about a random trip to Niagara Falls, she and I looked over at each other and pondered such a spontaneous trip.

This kind of spontaneity was expected of Ronald by that time. He had been to and from Chicago randomly throughout the last three weekends and he loved to explain to us how he’d been taking random trips and making impulse decisions like this one. He was leaving for home, the Netherlands, in less than a month and he wanted to go everywhere and experience as much as possible while he was still here.

We agreed to go to Niagara Falls with Ronald despite any costs, as we believed the experience would be worth it in the end. That didn’t mean we weren’t going to try and look for ways to make the trip less expensive. The weekend before we left we celebrated our friend Rahul Babbar’s graduation from Northwood. He was going back home to Toronto. Before we could even ask if we could stay with him for our trip he offered with no hesitation.

I didn’t know a trip to Toronto, compliments of my fellow international Northwood students, would be such a cultural learning experience. Ronald told us many things about the Netherlands that we would have previously had no idea about. He informed us that it is illegal in Netherlands to own a gun, and there are very few trucks and SUV’s in their country. Beyond the knowledge Ronald shared with us, our experience staying with Rahul exposed me more to Indian culture than I had ever been exposed to before. He is from India, and staying at his house included meeting his mother, who was more than happy to host us for our trip. She cooked us chicken curry, chicken kabobs, and made us traditional Indian tea. We walked in to their home and Indian Idol was on the television. When it wasn’t World Cup that was on TV, it was Cricket, and we got to see India beat Sri Lanka to win the Asian Cup for the fifth year in a row.

Walking through the city of Toronto, there were groups of World Cup fans who were selling vuvuzela’s on street corners, G20 protesters, and an all around diverse group of people and cultures. To top off the trip, we went to a Dutch bar called Betty’s to celebrate the Dutch 2-1 win over Cameroon in the quarterfinals of the World Cup. Watching Holland win their match among other Dutch fans was an incredible experience and truly one of a kind.

Leaving was bittersweet, as we had to say goodbye to new friends and begin our six-hour drive back to Midland, MI. Rahul and his family were fantastic tour guides and we thanked them for being that as well as wonderful and hospitable hosts. The goodbyes were pleasant, the drive was smooth and we found ourselves back in Midland in what seemed like a very short time. Had it not been for my international friend, I would not be able to say I have been to Niagara Falls or the city of Toronto. The stay was fantastic. I met great people along the way and experienced amazing things that opened my eyes even more to this incredible world around me.

Lifeskills Leadership Training

I participated in this program called Lifeskills leadership and it was an amazing program. The process I went through was life changing. It really helped me out a lot. I became a better person after this program. It really took me out of my comfort zone.

This program took me to a level I didn't know I had in me. Everything I went through made me more confident in myself. Now I know everyone has confidence in themselves, but there is always something that someone doesn't like about themselves. Well this program helped me break those bad habits. Thinking negative, surrounding myself around gossip, waiting til the last minute to do things, being late, and other bad habits that are most common for some people. This program helped me to better manage these set backs.

I was a different person after this program. I was open to try new things. I no longer remained the shy person I was grown up. I stepped out my comfort zone and just put all my faith and trust in God. I was willing to let go of old things to do new stuff I never thought of. I broke through a piece of wood, I bent a steel rod, I was able to cry in front of strangers, but most of all I was able to trust those strangers, who are now some of my best friends. Northwood has to continue providing this program. It really help challenge students and it also changes them and allow them to make a difference in the world. Lifeskills leadership training has produced so many successful leaders. It is a must program that I would encourage every student to get involved in.

A Man's Best Friend

I have a lot of friends who have dogs. Some of them really love dogs because they have more than one. Dogs are nice to have around. Their very protective of their owners. They even get jealous when they see their owner petting another dog.

Some people spoil their dogs, and I just can't understand that. It's funny to me. I'm happy that they are not treating their pets wrong by abusing them or neglecting them. If I get a dog, I'm pretty sure I'll understand why people treat their dogs like humans. I believe that they are good to have around. I just don't believe in kissing my dog in the mouth. I love the little doggie clothes some people put on them, but I don't understand why some people put baby clothes on their dogs. That's just to funny to me.

Some dogs act just like kids. I think that's cute. It's not bad to spoil dogs. They need love too. When their puppies, that's when they're most adorable. They can sleep in the same beds as their owners. Puppies are really playful too. They love to eat and chew on everything. I am kind of scared of dogs, but like friendly dogs who are playful. I usually get a workout with them. I may buy a dog one day. They are a joy to be around, and also a man's best friend.

Have you ever created a business plan before? Are you familiar with the layout of it? A person can make a lot of money creating a business plan. It's not hard to do. It takes allot of critical thinking and time preparing it. In order to run a successful business, a business plan is the first thing entrepreneurs do. The elements of a business plan consists of an executive summary, business description, market strategies, competitive analysis, design and development plans, and last but not least the financial components. Many beginners find help to get them started. Professional such as consultants, organizations,state-by-state list of commerce departments, are hired to help entrepreneurs prepare a good business plan. Some individuals even buy software and books to help them create a good plan.

In a business plan the objectives has to be determined first. Then the next step goes into financing the goals of the company. Step three is to determine how those goal will be effectively executed. The last step is to assess the company's potential. Now all this is easier said than time. Like I stated before, this process takes a lot of time and strategic thinking.

All business plans are not the same. It depends on the type of business a person desires to pursue.Plans differ in their length, appearance, their contents which are very detailed. Their are very short plans, or mini plans. They require different amounts of labor and it depends on what the individual desires to use. The plan selection is important because it has a powerful effect on the overall impact of the person plan. Many companies are very successful because they have a great business plan and they continue to reinvest in their company. Northwood is a great University that teaches this entrepreneurial philosophy. So why not check it out if your interested in going into business.

Car Shopping

I'm looking to buy a used car to get me back and forth to work. I don't even know where to start to be honest. As far as car searching what are the things I should be looking for in a vehicle?

I called a few of my friends and family members to help me answer this question. If I plan and save as much money as I can, I will have a car in no time. This experience should be fun. This will be my first car, and I know Ill have allot of maintenance to keep up with. I pray that I'm able to afford this, and that it'll all work out. I am looking forward to buying my first new car. I have to do my homework to find the best price I can afford to pay, and a car in good condition, and reliable.

I was fortunate to receive my first car as a Christmas gift my sophomore year of college. The following summer it broke down on me and I haven't been able to get it fixed since. I was so hurt, but I still had a job and loved every minute working there.

Doing Favors for People

I love it when I can be a blessing to people because I never know when I may need a blessing from someone else. I always pays off to be the nice person. Even though most people feel that nice guys finish last. This is not true. Everything has a time and it will come to pass if there is patience.

I'm glad I have good friends that I can count on to do what they can, when they can for me. Taking people for granted can end a good or great friendship. I personally need all the true and good friends that I can get, because I know I can not do everything on my own. I've heard, it's not what you know, but who you know in order to make the right connections and get to where you plan to be in life. Having the right connections can always come in handy when your down and out.

I've been job hunting for a while now and it seemed as if I had a streak of bad luck. After applying for several jobs and calling them back, the positions had already been filled. I was wondering if my application and resume even received a glance. A friend of mine told me to apply on line for a company. So I took her advice, and I ended up getting the job. What do you know lucky me!
I thank God for blessing me with the right people and having them lined up for me when I needed help.

Hey everyone!!

I just wanted to wish you all a happy 4th of July. I hope that you all have a safe one and enjoy the show where ever you go.

One year I went back to Cleveland, Oh for the summer to work and be with my family after I got out of school. I can't remember what year it was. But that summer was great!! I had so much fun. When July came around, me and a couple of friends celebrated the 4th for a whole week. We had a blast. In Cleveland they like to start the fireworks early. A week in advance is usually when people start pulling out all their pretty little show stoppers. After me and my friends got off work, we would go to different locations that we heard about, that were putting on a show of fireworks. We went downtown to the baseball game which usually had them every other night. Downtown is a really busy place to go and have fun with friends. You can always find something to do downtown when your board.

We all have unalienable rights. Those rights are life, liberty, and happiness.

June's Blessings

Here is a little something that helped me through when I was having a rough day. I hope it helps you as much as it helped me.

You may think you have challenges but you have so many blessing. Sometimes it takes only a moment of conscious effort to recognize those blessings. Once you focus on the gifts instead of the problems, your whole perspective will change and you will see blessing everywhere.

This is one reason why we must stay if faith. Sometimes the most simplest sayings can change everything and make a situation turn around.

We may get overwhelmed with the details and complexities of our lives. At times we may also need someone else's help to get untangled. With their help we can also gain a new perspective. Ask for help, don't be ashamed. Help may come in human or divine form, It may be seen or unseen. Ask, and ye shall receive.

Something of Interest

During spring term, for the past ten weeks in my international finance class I was studying issues on political policies involving the foreign exchange market dealing with the different options contracts. Dealing with swaps can be difficult because of the risk involved such as credit risk, regulations on contracts, and transaction cost. There are many types of capital transactions that take place in the market especially in states and cities.

In a Wall Street Journal article I read over, Interest Rate Deals Sting Cities, States, the author discussed the swap contracts that cities and states make with big banks and financial firms which can end up being unprofitable investment in the long run. Bullish bets made on the interest rate market have caused many of U.S. municipalities to lose money. These bets were placed to lower borrowing cost and to protect the cities from higher interest rates. The contracts had a floating-rate because it was cheaper for municipalities to use in order to borrow more rather than have the traditional-rate debt. Some contract deals didn’t go as planned; causing rates to decline and a drop in the amount of money municipalities were expecting to receive. Many tax payers were affected by the transaction because they had to pay for it out of their pockets. Some city councils, such as Las Angeles, are renegotiating interest rate deals with big bank corporations to help with the funding of different local projects for the city. From October 2003 thru June of 2009, 107 municipal school districts in Pennsylvania signed interest-rate swaps contracts, 3 of those contracts had been cancelled. Some districts had to compensate to get out of their contracts such as Bethlehem school district that paid J.P Morgan $12.3 million in order to cancel their contract. Author Aaron Lucchetti stated in the article that State lawmakers are in the process of setting restrictions on municipalities’ ability to use these forms of swaps because the public is uniformed about the where about of their money and they do not fully understand how the system of these contracts work. Some States are paying any where from $1 million to over $100 million to financial firms for their interest rate swap contracts. Financial firms like Bank of New York Mellon Corporation, Goldman Sachs Group, and Belgian-French Bank have high fees for security firms than traditional fixed-rate debt. Swaps were eventually added into the package by many cities and states, stating to pay fixed rates of 3% to Banks. All the while Banks interest rate payments were at a floating rate from as low as 0.5%. The municipalities were not gaining anything from the swap agreements. Although the deal was made to help municipalities save money and borrow more, government officials are investigating if there was any foul play involved. A civil dispute for alleged payments owed for various swap agreements over a unit of bond insurer’s from Ambac Financial Group sued Bay Area Toll Authority. Bay Area Toll Authority paid Ambac Financial after credit rating of insurer’s downgraded and after bonds were retired of $104.6 million to cancel the swap contract. Which Ambac claims that Bay Area Toll Authority owed $156.6 million for the various contracts.

Overall, some industry officials believe that the swap contracts are in good standing and that no modifications are needed. On the other hand, others officials are open for renegotiation as long as there is no extensive list of demands and can be settled out of court. Many State and government officials are reviewing proposed contracts and restructuring agreement deals with financial institutions in their cities best interest to help better the borrowing process based on the fluctuation of interest rates.
The main goal for banks is to hedge risk for their customers. Financial institutions are also the main traders who enter into agreements to buy and sell swaps. They will usually place asking and biding prices on different contracts to be traded throughout the market to minimize risk in fluctuations and prices in commodity to a profit.
This article raises a lot of concerns about the financial firms being reliable and trustworthy. All firms have to build solid reputations so that customers can invest in them with good faith. These firms then write up contracts due to modifications in interest rates, expectations changes because of adjustments of price levels, inflation rates, and supply and demand and sell them off to the highest bidders in the market at predetermined prices. I agree with the municipalities renegotiating the contracts with the big firms. It will allow them to borrow more and provide funding for more community projects. But, as the cities borrow more and more, they should make sure they lock in a variable rate and look into their agreements for all the details as to what obligation and rights they have.

Apple's iPad

Hey guys,

I was doing a little research on Apple Inc. I’m pretty sure some of you are very familiar with them but here are just a few things I thought was interesting to me that I found in the Wall Street Journal. I do not have an iPad yet, but I am looking to invest in one.

Apple Inc. has been a very innovative MNE for many years. Apple has been around since 1976 and continues to show signs of growth by the many products they offer to consumers. Recently they’ve introduced a new product called the iPad, into the market that had consumers lined up in front of stores waiting for them to open just so they could get their hands on one. Some stores sold out because of high demands. What makes buyers go crazy over gadgets like the iPod, iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad? It is because of the attention of new devices, the name and image, and the advance technology it offers?
One loyal and devoted customer Jason Kincaid stated he “had to have an iPad; it’s changing the paradigm of how we will use computers” in an article written by Geoffrey A. Fowler and Shira Ovide from the Wall Street Journal. Jason has brought two iPhones, an iMac, and a Mac Book pro laptop to add to his collection. Apple has captured a lot of market share and has gained new market access because of the variety of products they offer. There was so much energy and excitement surrounding the release of the iPad, which even visitors from Canada had to get there, hands on one as well. What made the iPad so intriguing to consumer? Apple’s customers love the products because its user friendly, very appealing, it’s convenient, and handy. In addition to the many features, there are different applications that are offered with the program. Apple’s products are faster than most PC’s and they have limited problems compared to other systems. Studies have showed that 3,100 iPad applications were available for the iPad when it became available. Some of those programs were originally developed for the iPod and iPhone but they can also be used on the iPad.
With the launch of the iPad, many reviews from newspapers and magazine companies have published worries about iTunes sales falling because sponsors desire to sell their publications else where. Many newsstands could be hurt because of the iPad due to all the applications that are available for downloading. Consumers may no longer buy newspapers or magazine and could go green if they invest in an iPad and subscribe to monthly subscriptions to top media companies. Publishers from top magazines and newspaper companies have to give Apple 30% of their profit when customers subscribe to their publications. In return Apple doesn’t release any important information to publishers about what their customers are buying. Publishers have used other measures to reach out to their customers, by taking surveys to find out what keeps their interest. Some publishers are wary of sales on iTunes.
Apple has dominated the market for many years. They know and focus on their areas of core competence, and they are making continuous improvements by being innovative. They have also developed a competitive strategy that helped them increase economies of scale for the long term.

Growing Up

Good Evening,

I am really happy for my baby sister. She moved into her apartment this weekend. She is officially grown now. She just don't know what she's bout to face. Bills, bills, and more bills. laughing out loud.
She was really excited. That's all she talked about for a month straight. My apartment this, and my apartment that. She is also a college student. She's actually going into her second year at Cincinnati state in Ohio this coming fall. She loves it there and its not to far from home either. We both are actually four hours away from home. She had decided to take a separate route then me. My sister went into culinary, and I'm the business one. I plan on hiring her as my chef once she's finish with school and when I get well established.
My family covers so many work background. We have chefs, business people, nurses, hair dressers, and the list goes on. It amazes me how far we have come and the places that we are headed to. I'm glad that we all have different niches.
I am looking forward to taking a road trip to go see my little sister apartment. I know this is going to be a wonderful experience for her. She has 4 roommates and they call themselves the C-chicks. They are really hilarious. I call them my little sisters too.
My mom is proud of us. We have all grown up and moved out and doing our own thing. She's gonna miss us, especially bugging her. I still do some days. That's what parents are for.

BP's Oil Spill

Hello Everyone,

I was looking into some of the most recent global issues that are happening in the world today. The oil spill with BP is one of them. It has caused a lot of damage for animals and local fishers.
One of the points of tension of the British Petroleum organizations and individual’s values is the impact it had on society when BP harmful oil leak divested a lot of businesses and killed wild life and had damages among different coasts. One incident occurred in 1989; Exxon had an oil spill in Alaska. In current events today, BP is responsible for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The accident also caused tension in environmental impacts of emissions during refining and consumption of fuel because of its effects on global warming, in the case that were covered by the media, BP is under great turmoil. In other controversies, accusations were brought to the head of BP because Amnesty International accused BP of helping Colombian security in a 35 year civil war of disappearances, torture and execution of civilians. Amnesty thought that BP was an alliance in funding private armies in Colombia and providing lethal training for security forces. In the end, the company denied the issues to protect their name from being tarnished. BP had made some drastic changes over the years to keep communities and their suppliers happy in order for them to keep their good name and to remain a well known player in the oil industry. I agree with the way BP handled the criticism. Because they were a big producer in the oil industry, they would be targeted more on their practices. They decided to change the way they worked with host nations, and other communities for better causes, which is justifiable. BP wanted to continue to build a good reputation and create value for their shareholders in the long run.

So my question to you is do you think BP is still a good company? And do you think they are doing all they can do?

Enjoying the Weather

Howdy everyone!

It's so nice outside today. I am glade that those grey clouds are gone and that the sun is back out shinning. It is a great day to go out bike ridding, then maybe some swimming. I can even go for a nice long walk, or even barbq. I feel like going to the park today and just relaxing and enjoy nature.
One day I desire to go on a hot air balloon ride. That would be so cool. But there is one problem. I am scared of heights. I am willing to conquer my fear in order to see how amazing the scenery looks from in the sky. I have actually been on a plan before too. It wasn't to bad. I know if I can get on a plan, I can go on a hot air balloon ride. I saw a tone of movies, and I always thought it was romantic to do something like that. I would also love to go horse back ridding. I'm not sure how that's going to work, but at least I'll be on the ground. I like horses too. They are some of the most friendliest animals. This would be something I could really enjoy because it's different for me.

Having A Positive Attitude

Good Day!

I hope all is well with everyone today. I pray that you all are in good health and that your cup of blessings in overflowing.

I can tell you that my cup is overflowing. I’ve been searching for a job for the last 3 months and I’ve been getting the interviews, and even second interviews, but I didn’t get the jobs. I know that it sounds bad, but I’m not going to let that discourage me. I feel that these interviews are preparing me for the BEST job for me. I practice by myself in the mirror, going over potential questions I may be asked during the interview. I also have friends pretend like there interviewing me as well so that they can tell me how I’m doing. There feedback is very important to me, because I need pointers on what I’m saying and if I come across too cocky or boring. It always helps me to have a second person’s opinion. The next step is being confident. Having a positive attitude and being confident says a lot about a person. Coworkers wouldn’t desire to put up with working with anyone with a nasty attitude. A person with a nasty attitude also won’t have a job for long. The next step is always smiling. A smile shows that you’re happy about life. You may not be happy about your situation, but it shows that you’re not going to be sour or bring others down with you. I love to smile because I feel l like no one can take my joy.

My advice to you is to keep going. Keep searching and don’t stop till you find what you’re looking for. Always keep a smile on your face and stay if faith. Remember the harder it rains, the closer you are to your break through.

Happy Father's Day

Hey guys!
First I would like to begin by saying Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s and Mom’s who plays the role as their child’s father. Thank you for raising your sons and daughters to excel and achieve their own dreams in life.

My dad always showed his girls tough love. I am truly thankful for that because I learned that I couldn’t always get my way when I cried and wined. I had to work very hard or show some kind of effort when I really had to have something I couldn’t afford. My dad used to say “Just as long as you do what you’re supposed to do, you’ll get what you need”. Encouraging words of wisdom all the time. He has always lectured to me and my sisters when we younger about life. We used to stare at him, like can we go now, we hear you. Now that we are older it’s “Hey dad, what’s new in life, what’s up in your world?” Now he spends time talking to us and making us laugh about how we gone take care of him when we all begin our careers.
My dad is so amazing. He gets 5 stares on this father’s day in my book. The first stare is for his love. Whether good or bad, he always showed us so much love and took up for us. The second stare is for wisdom. He had the best sayings that I ever heard, some were very funny, and some were very real. The third stare is for his support. No what my sisters and brothers decided to do he was always in our corner. He didn’t always agree with the situation but he made sure he was there. The forth stare is for the time we shared. I remember on weekends he used to take my sisters and me over to his cousin house so we could learn how to work on cars. As girls we just wanted to play with Barbie, ride bikes and play with our cousins. Till this day I know a little more about cars, which can shock a few guys. The fifth stare is for him, being him. I thank God for the most awesome father in the universe.

Good Day!

I really love to go shopping. The best way for me to get over my problems is retail therapy. When I go shopping I don't spend all my money. I look for good bargains, decent sales, and I always keep coupons with me. I learned this from my mom. Discounts are the best.
I was in Marshall's the other day and all I could think about was if I had a job there, I would have to let them keep my pay check. I have disciplined myself though. For the most part I leave my credit cards at home when I know I'm going out. I usually take about $30 with me as well. I do not spend beyond my means because I have allot of responsibilities. Its not important to finance your wants because you'll have nothing left over for your needs.

Now I go into stores to look around to see the new trends and styles. I also go for the smell of the the department stores. Have you ever noticed how the clothes smell when they have just been processed and stocked on the sales floor? But most of all I go to department stores to be relieved. Its something about department stores that make me feel a ease.

June is a big Birthday month for a lot of people. Especially in my family, we have so many summer babies. I know about 20 people who has a birthday this month alone. I have so many gifts to buy.

I was on facebook today and I usually check for words of wisdom to reflect on for the day. I use this as my daily newspaper. Instead of letting all the negativity and violence in the world into my life I like to feed myself with words of faith, hope, and redemption.

There is allot of hurt and sorrow going around in the world. The weather is becoming very nice, and people seem like they don't know how to act. Relationships are falling apart, people are dieing. Instead of letting pain build up in my life, I decided to allow love and generosity to take its place.

Everyone has a purpose in life. Some people my feel that things aren't possible or that stuff goes wrong in their life all the time. When we encounter trails, we tend to lose hope and faith and think about giving up. Look at the bigger picture! The Truth. Your faith is being tested and it will produce endurance, which will have its perfect results. The story of your life will start to piece itself together in a way that was only possible for YOU. Everything will always work together for the greater good. Just continue to have faith and pray in all that you do.

Hi Everyone,

Today's blog is about M.A.D. It stands for Making A Difference. How will you make a difference in the world? What will you do to be that difference?

To me that's what life is about. I believe that everyone impacts someone in a small way or in huge way. Waking up to a friend's encouraging words from a text message to begin the day may make a difference in that person life. Paying for someone's gas when they least expect it. You could really make a person's day.

However, some people have to much pride where they don't ask for help when they really need it. Some people also take others for granted and mistreat them. What do you do when you run into these type of situations? Well you simple make a difference. Change your attitude when you feel like your the only person who can help yourself. There are people in your life that are there to help, and promote you to your next level. Without them how could you make a difference in someone else's life.

If you find yourself mistreating or taking others for granted, find a new perspective. Make it a habit to be good to people. Do things out the kindness of your heart. Doing good deeds for others will cause other people to do even greater deeds for you.

So why not go M.A.D this week, I promise you that you'll reap the benefits of the seeds you sow.

Rainy Days

Top of the Morning to ya,

I hope all is well on this beautiful day. It's kind gloomy outside, but that's okay because the rain brings a kind of freshness with it. I love when it rains. Sometimes I get the best sleep in my life when it pours outside. To me rainy days allows you to be creative. Your imagination starts going places, thinking of ways to make your time more productive.
As a little kid I grew up loving the movie Peter Pan, and sometimes reminisce about my childhood on how I thought I could fly too. I used to go outside to catch lighting bugs, thinking they were fairies. Those were the good old days.
Till this day I love the movie Cat in the Hat. It was one of my favorite books to read. I was thrilled when I found out they were making a movie and Mike Myers would play the leading role. Some things you just don't grow out of. I really enjoy being a big kid. I know there is one in each of us. I believe its okay to let it show from time to time.
On a rainy day, what do you do to pass the time by? Do you go visit other people? Do you keep the kids company or do they keep you company? Do you have peace and quite time to yourself to reflect on life?
When it rains, always remember that it brings new life, peace, & happiness. Sometimes you may find your better days on a day like today.

Hello All,

What do you know about the bubonic plague? I was asked this question and I learned so much more than I thought I knew about it. Here are a few more details about this life threatening disease. So if you’re ever asked this question you’ll be prepared to answer it.

The outbreak of the bubonic plague started in China in 1330. It was transmitted by fleas, which affected many people and rodents. It could be transmitted from person to person or by flea bites. The plagued spread very quickly around the world by merchant ships and trade routes to western Asia and Europe, which caused millions to die. Many people had painful swelling of the lymph glands, high fevers, chills, vomiting, diarrhea, and formation of buboes. People also had red spots on their skin then they turn black. The black spot on the skin was due to dried blood that accumulated under the skin’s surface. By the time the plague spread throughout England it was called “The Black Death” because of the black spots it left on people’s skin.

In Europe one-third of the people died from the bubonic plague. Many people were not buried properly and their bodies were left to decay in abandoned streets and homes. In medieval Europe, people believed that cats were evil and many of them were killed which increased the rat population and fleas carrying the infections disease. Five years had passed and 25 million people lost their lives between 1347 and 1352. There were labor shortages throughout Europe. Many of the workers demanded higher wages, but they were turned down by the landlords. This caused revolts throughout England, France, Belgium and Italy. The plague disappeared in the 1600’s but it left a constant fear in the society that it would return.

Memorial Day Weekend

Good Day!

I had an awesome weekend.I went to visit my best friend dad (a.k.a my Step dad) in Detroit this weekend. I had a good time. My best friend said that this really defined our friendship because of the closeness we have. She moved away almost a year ago to Atlanta, to begin a new beginning after she graduated from college. She was class of 2009, and I'm apart of class 2010. My senior year was very different without having her around. But we talked everyday on the phone and skyped.

For my weekend, my step dad and his fiance', and a family friend, went to not one but two church services, (which were very good by the way) and two Barbeque's, and out to lunch at Ponderosa. Man there's nothing happier in the world than a college student eating all weekend for free, I'll tell you that much. (lol) But spending time, and laughing with my extended family was a joy.

We all had a lovely time. I really enjoyed myself. College is such an amazing experience. You get the opportunity to meet some of the most wonderful people in the world who will let you into their families and treat you as their own child. I couldn't ask for more.
I know I have friends who care about me, but I have yet to realize the ones who will be by my side in good and trouble times.
I desire to leave you with this. KNOW WHO YOUR REAL FRIENDS ARE!

The Internet

Hey guys

I have a question for you. Do you think the Internet is bad? For example, facebook, Myspace, Tweet, etc. Today I was involved in discussion about how the media has a big influence on social norms. Women for example, are being exploited, and we do not get the respect we deserve. Sometimes I feel that way when I have to work in a group full of males. So I have to be more aggressive. We tend to get overlooked in some of our contributions.

Some stuff about Internet usage I didn't agree with but, I didn't think of it in that sense before. Do you think the Internet cause damages to the minds of young people? Now of days you can find any and everything by a click of a mouse. It is convenient if you have leisure time, and its a good tool for communication. However, there are those who think its impersonal, and communication should be personal.
If you were to go to a friend house, how many books do you think you would find and how often do you think they are read? How many computers do you think a household have and the hours spent on them?

I agree that we have to watch what we teach our children. Times are changing, and they need to be taught how to make a difference in the world by stopping the violence and negativity. I do do believe there are some situations we can not control, but we do have the choice to do whats right.
This conversation really made me think about a lot of current issues, and the path that I'm taking in life. What's the path that your choosing?

Let Me Introduce Myself....

HI EVERYONE!!!!!

Since this is my first blog I thought that I would just introduce myself!!! I'm Ellen and I'm a triplet, Serbian, and from Akron, Ohio!! If you were thinking LeBron James then you are right: his HOME town!! :) My high school was just right down the street from his, so I thought, why not give you guys a sneak peak into his high school!!

And this Ladies and Gentlemen is........Where the magic happened!!!

When I am not in Akron though I am in my second home: Northwood University in Midland, MI!! I absolutely love it here!! I am a Cheerleader.... well Cheerleading Captain actually... I am a Student Ambassador, and a part of the International Business Association, as well as, College Deca. There are so many opportunities and things to get involved in here at Northwood it is unbelievable. But I just thought I would give you guys a little info about me and where I came from!! :) I have to get back to painting my room now!! Catch up with you guys later!!!

Hey Guys

There are a lot of artist that I really like, and I would love to go on tour with them. Traveling the country seems like a lot of fun. You get to stay in nice and expensive hotels, eat at nice restaurants, and meet tons of people. I also know it can be tiring to. Performing requires a lot of energy, but some people were born to entertain.

One of my favorite artist is Chris Brown, but I have a long list of others as well. Chris Brown can dance his tail off. I'm a huge groupie when it comes to him, Trey Songz, and Usher. All three of them are a triple threat. They can act, sing and dance.

I listened to Chris Brown CD the other day and I love it. After all he has been through last year,he is coming back strong and his music shows it.
Job well done Chris, well done!!

Hey People,

I hope you guys are familiar with skype. I love it!!! My phone bill has never been this cheap since I first got my phone, and I only used it for emergency, which in my case was to call my mom for bus fair (lol). I've used skype for the past 3 months now. I even got my parents hooked to it, and they are old school. My mom and dad just learned how to text.

You can use skype to call your friends up from different states and around the country. You can call their phones and computers to chat live and in person with them. You can even send them text messages from your computer. The great thing about skype is that it is free to sign up and download. All you need is a computer of course, a web cam and microphone.

Giving is Caring

Good Day Everyone,

I was going through my belongings the other day to see what to give away. I had a ton of stuff that accumulated over the course of my college career. Some stuff I never used some stuff I grew out of. I love to give stuff away to people who are appreciative. I don’t like to throw things away because I know that there is someone who can use them. I remember the saying, one mans’ junk is another mans’ treasure. That saying is very true. I’ve been given so much that there is no room for complaining about what I don’t have. Now it feels good to give away what I can to enrich someone else’s life.

Today I didn’t have any money for lunch and a friend offered to buy me lunch. People sure do come across your path just in time. My mom and my grandma’s always told me that I would reap what I sow. Sowing seeds of kindness multiplies in the long run. I am seeing my harvest. I’m all smiles today.

Here are some encouraging words I got from a friend. If you desire something, offer something. Offering can come in many forms: a gift, a prayer, a smile, flowers, or food. Offer something from your heart.

Nature Walk

I was taking a walk today along the rail trail to do a little exercising because the weather was really nice out. The trail is really amazing. Nature is so beautiful and interesting to look at. I understand the phrase “stop and smell the flowers”. Sometimes life can get so busy and full with worries and concerns that you don’t take the time out and to be thankful for what you have in front of you. Well today I found time to stop and smell the flowers, the grass, see the bees, birds and squirrels. I’ve never been much of a nature person, but today I was. On this walk I had time to reflect and think about a lot of things. This week was a little stressful because I thought about things I did not have control over. I constantly thought about the what if’s, should of, could of, would of. Then it crossed my mind to do what I can and leave the rest up to God.
On my nature walk I found assurance and peace. I don’t have to worry because I know everything will always work itself out. A friend quoted a scripture, Matthew 6:25-27 do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? God has everything under his control, so fight the feeling of doubt.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going to sleep on that tonight.

School's Out For Summer!

So, exams are finally over! I am still on campus to help out with Freshmen Orientation and walking around campus is so odd!
Walking around this afternoon, I realized that nearly no one is here anymore! Everyone left after their exams either on Tuesday or Wednesday, so now the campus is nearly only filled with RA's and NU employees.
Freshmen Orientations are all throughout this coming summer, and they will be filled with information! Orientation Leaders will be wearing Light Blue NU Shirts, so we will be easy to find! We will be giving tours of the campus and helping students schedule classes. Parents are most certainly welcome as well, there will be a special meeting just for your parents and they will learn all about insurance provided for you (included in your tuition), and even meet with some of our faculty!
Here is a list of just a very few things that will be included in your orientation-
*get your student ID
*meet with an Academic Advisor if you have any questions about which classes you need to take
*some students (that arrive early) may take Math and English Challenge Exams to see if they are ready for the required classes in the NU Curriculum.
*register for classes for your fall
*Most importantly- Learn what it feels like to be a Northwood University Timberwolf!

I am super excited to see all of the new students that will be here in the upcoming school year! Don't forget to sign up for Your Orientation day!

Good Luck on Finals

Good evening,

The school year is coming to an end and I am really hoping and praying that I get the grades that I am expecting. This term has been very challenging for me and I put a lot of effort into all my classes. What has helped me the most was working in study groups and going to the TLRC (Timberwolf Learning Resource Center). The center has helped me out a lot with understanding and grasping the material. Working in study groups gave me the opportunity to ask more questions and seeing how things can be taught in different ways.

So far everything is looking good. I studied and prepared for all my finals and I feel really confident. Wish me luck and pray for me everyone.

Healthy Living

Good Day Everyone,

Summer is quickly approaching, and there is so much to be done before then. I have to get back in shape. I don’t know about you guys but I put working out on a backburner. For the past month I have not been motivated as I usually am. I haven’t picked up much weight (which is a good thing for me). My eating habits have changed. I’ve been eating a lot healthier now which gives me more energy during the day. I also do a lot of walking around campus which helps out a lot as well. Usually I sneak in naps during the day, but now I haven’t seemed to need them because of my busy schedule. I do have to get back in the gym if I want that beach body. If anyone is looking for a workout partner, I’m your gal. I will be so thrilled to get some type of healthy fitness team together so that we all can push each other and achieve good results. Exercising is a very healthy way of living and should be included in your daily routines if possible.

May 15th Commencement

Hey guys,
I just wanted to let you all know how awesome Northwood University commencement ceremony was on May 15th. The weather was gorgeous, the sun was out, everyone you ran into had a smile on there faces, but most of all it was a day to celebrate us seniors for a long time coming and a job well done. This journey has been a wonderful trip for me. I couldn’t have chosen a better University for myself. There were about 400 graduates in the 2010 class and I must say that I am very proud of all of us for over coming the challenges and obstacles we faced. As a Northwood Alumni, I have so much to look forward to and to give back. I have received a few job offers and I still believe there are more to come. I’ve had the privilege to work and meet some of the smartest and funniest people during my time at Northwood. From the Admissions staff, to the faulty, and maintenance team, all had a positive impact on me during my four years at Northwood. May 15th will be one of those days for me that I will cherish most. I had to end one chapter of my life and begin a new one. I had to say farewell (not good bye to some of my friends) because I know our paths will cross again. It was really nice to have my whole support group with me by my side that day. I would like to thank everyone for their support, love, donations, prayers, and time. Without you guys encouraging me and helping me stay focused, I would not have crossed that stage. So once again Thank You from the bottom of my heart.

Good Morning!!

Nearly there everyone!! Today and tomorrow left of classes for me and then two days of finals...how excited. Im most excited about this summer to earn some serious money!!!

We just came through the worst of a couple days of bad weather. It got real cold and wet and miserable so the good news is its going to get better. This weekend the temp is expected to get up to 70! So that will be great to do some fnial studying outside in the warm weather. I would definitly recommend Thrune Courtyard outside the Hach for that. So get together with some friends and go study in our awesome campus!

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the final week of classes of the 2009/2010 academic year. It has been a long year but i dont know about you it seems to have gone very fast!!

I know lots of people are preparing to hand in final assignments, projects and do final chapter tests before their cumulative finals so good luck to everyone and make sure we make the most of this weekend to prepare for finals next week.

I hope everyone is able to go home after finals to visit their families. I am flying back home a week on saturday. Im getting very excited and really want time to hurry up. I plan to work in a pub over the summer to earn as much money as i can so that i can buy a car when i come back in August.

Things are slowing down this week socially but the one thing that is speeding up is the TLRC - the tutoring center in lower strosacker. So if there is anything your not understanding make sure you go and ask for help down their so that you feel comfortable with the material before finals.

Good luck everyone...keep up the good work.... just over one week to go!!

Well summer is almost here for us here! This is our last week of classes then we have finals Monday through Wednesday of next week. It is starting to get a little stressful for me but I know everything will get done. Soccer and basketball are over with now so I also have a little more time on my hands to do extra school work. On campus everyone is mainly finishing up class projects and getting ready for finals. So the library is going to be pretty busy this week and weekend.

Hey 2010 Graduates,

“WOW”, we made it to this great accomplishment in our lives. Some of us are first generations to complete a college degree. Others are very blessed to continue in the footsteps of those who paved the way for them to attend college. I am truly happy for all of us on this milestone that we completed. As we move on, what’s next for most of us? Graduate school, jobs, traveling, and marriage.

I am looking forward to keeping in touch with many of my life long friends, classmates, professors, and the awesome staff here at Northwood. I couldn't’t have chosen a better college for myself if it wasn’t for the recruitment of my regional counselor, Jill Russell, my mother and father dedication, my family and friends prayers, and my faith in God who has brought me to and thru it all.
I pray that all Northwood’s graduates experience an abundant amount of success, from promotions, to traveling, volunteering, and most of all educating others on the philosophy of building future leaders of a global free-enterprise society.

Hi Everyone!!

How is everyone doing? I hope everyone had a great weekend whatever you were doing. This weekend was a real fun one for me. I went mountain biking which felt great and today i went and watched the NU baseball team take on Saginaw. Unfortunatly we lost but it was a great atmosphere with a lot of fans coming out to support them from both sides.

Yesterday the baseball team took on Saginaw at The Great Lakes Loons Stadium (Dow Diamond). The stadium is awesome and it was a great stage for a great game.

This week i am busy trying to hand in projects, assignments and get last tests done before finals week coming up in 2 weeks. Remember if you need extra help and need good grades on papers and tests, use the TLRC in Lower Strosacker for tutoring.

Im sure everyone is looking forward to a long summer vacation so keep up the good work for the last 2 weeks of clases. Have a great week!!

Week Eight

Well folks, it is now the end of week 8 at Northwood (which means only 2 weeks, plus exam week until we are finished for the year!) It seems pretty clear to me that Spring is here! With this gorgeous weather, it has begun to hit all students. I have noticed the signs of Spring all around campus. For example; students have begun to no longer wear their coats, many will actually gather outside, some have even begun gathering outside at night, without a coat!

That’s right! It really is getting warm out! I heard it will be up to 82 degrees today here in Midland! Too bad I am going home to Grand Rapids this weekend, but it will be about 78 degrees there, so no worries, I will still get to enjoy the sun with my family! J

I have decided on what I will be doing this summer, I am going to have two jobs, one working as a marketing intern at a seamless rain gutter company, and one working as a carhop at my local Sonic Drive-In. I am excited to be working both of these jobs because I have done them both before and I enjoy the work, the other employees, and the customers at both jobs. I have always felt that it is very important work in an environment that you enjoy, if you work at a job that you can’t stand, it is just going to make you an unhappy person. Thus, I only work places that I enjoy.

……like Northwood! I’m not sure if I have mentioned it before, but I work at NU in the admissions office. If a high school student, or a student from another school, comes to campus to visit with an admissions counselor, and they would like a tour of the campus, I am one of the Student Ambassadors that get to give them a student’s perspective of the school. We get to answer the real questions that they have about student life, grades, jobs, etc. I love this job so much because I care about and love talking about Northwood University. It simply is the best school if you are serious about your education!

Well, it’s about time for me to pack up and go home for the weekend. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, I know I will!

Week 8 guys, only a couple more to go so keep up the good work. Last Friday was an exciting time for the University. At 5am in the morning roughly 300 students went live on ABC 12 tv showing off the canned food they had collected and publicizing the university as best they can. It was a lot of fun and a great job done by all. It was also the first time i have been on American TV, i feel all famous now!

The soccer team this weekend went to the DuPage tournament in Chicago. Both the mens and the womens team won the competition to draw a close to the end of their althetic year. Well done to both of those teams.

The baseball team has a game today and the softball team also play today to try and clinch the GLIAC championship. So make sure you get out and support both of those teams.

A New Ring Back

Hey everyone!

I was at work the other day and I happened to go into a daze. My mind started wondering and I was coming up with ways to be innovative. Well I kind of of fell on this little funny idea. As a telemarketer making phone calls is kind of exciting. Some people have really funny answering machines where they make funny voices. Some answering machines makes your heart drop because of kid sweet voices, others are like “OK” pretty wired. Some people don't have voice mail systems and the keeps ringing and ringing and that lady picks up and tells you what to do.
I'm the type of person on the other end “saying please pick up, please pick up, I really have some good information to share with you”. The professional voice mails are nice as well. My problem is the dial tone. They get redundant after the first 30 calls. Then you'll occasionally get the ring back dial tone. I love calling students with cool ring back tones.
So it made me think about a service that phone companies can provide for telemarketers to listen to their favorite music while calling clients. Instead of listening to a regular dial tone, how about listening to some current news that's broadcast by radio stations. Or maybe telemarketers can listen to some new songs that top the charts. . Then when the person picks up it automatically goes off just as the call back ring tone. The only difference is that the full song can be played. It's kind of like a waiting system that banks have when they put u on hold. You get to listen to that boring elevator music. With this new service you can pick what u would like to hear. That would be cool. What do you think?

WOW!!!! I was super happy to be on TV this morning, with many of my friends here at Northwood. There was so much energy, it was unbelievable. There was free t-shirts, breakfast, cute football players, our outstanding mock trail team, and of course cameras and lights. Any body who is somebody was there. NU was definitely in the spot light today. I'm pretty sure SVSU has nothing on us. And we are also going to win that trophy cup for being the college who collected the most pounds of can goods to help feed families around Michigan. Thanks Channel 12 for coming out to NU.

Earth Day

Hey everyone,

Northwood had a pretty exciting day around campus on Earth Day. Students were displaying all types of fun and interesting facts about the earth. It amazes me all the resources we consume considering the small population of billions of people that are living. We really have to make earth a better place for future generations to come. Northwood also had a tree planting ceremony for church reloaded. I can't wait to come back to Northwood in a few years to see how our tree has grown and contributed to the environment. Circle K also planted over 200trees as well. LETS GO NORTHWOOD!!!

Today is a great day, the sun is shining and I just ace my statics exam. To top it off I got a free lunch in your cafeteria with some of my church reloaded friends. Today since it is earth day the church reloaded put up a table outside the café to hand out some books and invite people out to your special earth day event. We will be placing a tree out the Hatch center after service.

Today is a day that you should be thankful for all that earth has to offer us, after all this is where we live. Think about it, would you just leave trash in your room that would stay there forever. NO. So before you go and through away your aluminum cans or pieces of paper, stop, think and recycle.

Hi Guys!!

Hope every one is doing good. Lots of things going on at Northwood this week.

Tomorrow is Earth day and there will be an Easter Day poster display in Dow Commons. The posters were created by students in the environmental classes and they are advocating for certain environmental agendas. Circle K group is also putting on a campus clean up event. They will be offering tshirts and students will be cleaning up the trash all around the campus.

On the sports front Softball are playing their Grand Valley make up game on thursday while the Baseball teams have their next home game staged at Dow Diamond vs Saginaw. THe Dow Diamond is a great stadium and a great opportunity to watch some of your friends compete against our rivals!! The soccer team are in Chicago this weekend competing in the DuPage tournament to conclude their Spring season.

I hope everyone signed up for classes ok. Remeber if you sign up late you will get a $100 fine so make sure you do that.

Howdy!!!

I know senior can be a rough time. It's exciting, stressful, relieving all at the same time. We all have prepared ourselves for this turning point in our lives whether we're graduating from high school and moving on to college, or if we're moving on from college and headed for the real world.
Here are a few good study tips that helped me make good grades and avoid from getting stressed when the tough got going.

1.Establishing a consistent time and place to study every day that had little distraction and allows you to concentrate.
2. Start studying as soon as you sit down with the intention of studying. Putting phones on silent really helps a lot because of less distractions.
3. Make task manageable so that it will help you stay focused on one thing. Break down your tasks so that you have a better understanding of the material, especially if you have to cover a lot. It's also good to have a study partner to go over the material with you.
4. Keep track of what you study so you can see what you've accomplished. This helps you go over things that you may not have covered yet.
5.Keep your area organized because it keeps your mind from being flustered.

These are just a few tips that you may find helpful. Sometimes we face challenges that make us feel like giving up, but if we have a set routine and good habits, we will conquer our challenges:)

NU Style Show

Hi Guys,

I hope that you are having a wonderful day. I wanted to talk about my experience in the style show last week on Thursday. I had a ball and I enjoyed working with everyone. There were about 50 models ranging from all majors in fashion, international business, finance, advertising, and accounting. We had practice every Monday night from February til the day of the show. Some nights we had double practice so that we could work on our walk and our poses. All that hard work paid off because everyone who attended the show said it was amazing.
I was a model for LaTerry Aaron. She designed my dress solely for me. I really commend her because the dress was gorgeous on me. She is very artistic and has her own unique way of working with people which made it enjoyable to work with her.
My overall experience with the style show was a step out of my comfort zone. It allowed me to network with other students, I was able to receive excel credit for taking time out to help put on such a wonderful show. But most of all I enjoy strutting my moves down the run way. I would have never thought that I would be doing a run way show because I'm a shy person. But I made it work for me and it wasn't anything shy about me on stage, I was a little nervous but I was ready to put on a show as well as the other models, and wow the audience. I was happy to see all my friends come out and support the show, and the professors and staff as well. We all had a ball doing the show and all the hard work and practices paid off.

Hi Everyone!!

I hope everyone is having a great week. What a beautiful day at Northwood, sun is shining lots of things going on and the week is going fast.
Yesterday President Pretty lead an academic team pep rally outside the library, it was great to see all the support for the teams on campus. Also outside the library were free hot dogs, chips and drinks. This week is celebrating library week so thank you to all the library staff for the excellent job they do and thank you for cooking the hot dogs for all the hungry passing students.

Today is a big softball game for the girls. They play number 2 in the GLIAC, Saginaw Valley. The softball team at number 1 in the GLIAC at the moment and so this is a big game and a fantastic win if they do. Make sure you come out and support the girls against our rival school.

Hi Guys!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and back with some energy for week 6!!
This weekend the soccer team had a pair of games in Grand Rapids on saturday. We won both games 1-0 and 2-0, the first against Grand Valley club and the second against Spring Arbor. It was really nice to get out and play again. This saturday coming up we have a game at Michigan State against their club soccer team. Lots and lots of games going on this week for the baseball, softball and track meets so make sure you support your T-Wolves.
I found out today that next year we are having a newly refurbished main cafeteria. From the sounds of it there will be a lot more stations with a bigger variety of food. As i am still living on campus next year i am very much looking forward to that!

hi guys!!

rainy day at northwood today, but still lots going on around campus. Last night in the Griswald lecture hall Professor Richard from Louisiana University came onto campus to give a talk to students. His lecture was themed on how the Greeks and Romans influenced the Founding Fathers. This was a very interesting talk and a great addition to American Government and Business Ethics classes this term.
This saturday the soccer team have their first spring scrimage against Grand Valley club team. It will be a great opportunity to stretch our legs and get some touches on the ball.
Next week Greek Week starts, this is a big event for many on campus and the competitions are always fun to go out and watch.

Happy Easter everyone!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend for easter and that the majority managed to get home and see their families. Myself, i took a trip down to South Carolina to enjoy some sun, sea and sand. Had a great time and enjoyed the warm weather down there.
Did a bit of catching up today at school as i missed a couple tests last week. My teachers this term have been great and accommodating to make up a test.
The baseball and softball teams are playing some games this week so make sure you get out and cheer on the T-Wolves.

Easter at Home!

Hello Everyone!
I don't have the opportunity to go back home to see my friends and family very often, but when I do, it is always a truly delightful time! I left Friday morning at 3:00am because I had to wait until my boyfriend (who works for on-campus security and is also from my hometown) got out of work, then we headed off towards Grand Rapids! All day I just sat and relaxed at home with my family, then went off to see my grandparents a few miles down the road. Man oh man, it sure is nice to have most of my family all in the same area!

Speaking of family, my grandfather ended up having a emergency triple bypass surgery this past Monday, and thankfully, after the many hopes and prayers, he is recuperating very well and should be able to go back home today!

In other terrific news, I found out this week that I will be a Resident Assistant this coming school year, which basically means that I get to be up at school about 2 weeks before classes start for training on how to take care of people in hectic situations, and in not so hectic situations. I will be one of five RA's in Naegle Village, which is an apartment complex for sophomores, juniors and seniors who choose to live on campus. I am very, Very excited for this opportunity because not only will it look good on my resume, but it will also help me to learn more, through actual hands-on experience about how to deal with people in all types of situations.

Well, I'm off to make a delightfully delicious carrot cake for my family's Easter celebrations tomorrow!

Hi Guys!!

Last week until a slightly longer weekend for easter. I hope everyone is able to go home and enjoy some time with their families this weekend.
I know many students have got exams this week so make the most of the library for studying and especially the TLC for free tutoring in any areas you are struggling with. I know for my spanish class they are holding a study session in Lower Strosacker just to speak some spanish and have some fun with the language if any spanish students are interested.
This weekend i am off to South Carolina, Myrtle Beach to be exact to enjoy some sun, sea and sand so i am pumped for that. I will be spending a little time going over some material for a couple tests i have at the beginning of next week so thats a bummer but all worth it in the long run.

My boyfriend took me out on the perfect date! We went to see the Imax at the Henry Ford in Dearborn to see Alice in Wonderland. It was the first time that I was able to go to the Imax theater so I was wondering how it would be. Actually it was the first time I saw anything in 3D in the theater. The previews themselves had me amazed on how close everything seemed. The one commercial that had me going to close was the Tahiti movie.
I actually didn't want to see Alice. All of the commercials were focused on Johnny Depp and I thought it would be another creepy film like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It was actually a really good movie and Johnny Depp was amazing as the Mad Hatter. I actually loved the movie! I would recommend it for anyone.
We went to an all you can eat place that had everything we wanted to eat, steak, shrimp, and tacos. They also had a crumble cheesecake that was really really good. It was the second best date he's every taken me on.

Just wanted to let everybody know about the student-athlete meeting that is happening tonight. All student-athletes are attending a talk from Northwood grad Chris Wilson of the Washington Redskins. This talk is part of the Values Empahsis Week put on at Northwood. Chris is going to be telling us about his story and how to suceed. He went all the way from Flint Northern High School to the top of the Washington Redskins. He will be talking about what it took to get there, the importance of giving back, how his education has helped him suceed and the importance of ethics in your life. It should be an inspiring event for everyone attending and an eye opener to all the student-athletes on campus.

Just thought id remind everyone about the careers fair that is going on this week. I would recommend this to all students whether your a freshman or a senior. There are a lot of great companies attending so make sure you bring your resume and cover letter to hand to employers....dont forget to wear a suit!!

The NU teams have been busy this weekend. The golf team travelled to Georgia for the weekend and had a lot of sucess there. The baseball team unfortunately lost to Tiffin but im told there is a lot more to come. This weekend there is free hot chocolate at the home baseball game so make sure you come out and support them. The baseball team are at Grand Valley today and travel to play Findlay tomorrow.

How is everyone doing??

Great weekend at the Wood just passed. We were fortunate to have soccer off on friday so made the most of it by relaxing in my Unit and watched some movies with the roomates. Im so glad to have a living room this year compared to my freshman year, i think this has been the biggest plus about living in the upperclassmen housing.

A fantastic speaker came to Northwood today, John Blundell was a part of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatchers team. A very well educated man, he has been talking to students and many students have said great things about him. This is another superb thing NU has put on around campus. NU always seems to bring in great speakers to talk to students so if you get the chance make sure you attend as many as you can.

Hey everyone,
Things have been busy for me lately. Finelly into week two of the new term and things are finnely feeling like routine again. I'm no longer needing to look at my schedule and try and remember which classes are in which buildings and when I need to head to class in order not to be late. Between work, classes, homework, and working out in the gym I am finding less and less time that needs to be filled.
Games nights set up on the weekends are a great way to kill time when I'm not going home. Lately we've been playing apples to apples and risk.

Cleveland Autoshow

What’s up guys!

I just wanted to drop by and tell you all about the Cleveland Autoshow. It was great!! I always enjoy myself every time I go. This year was pretty cool. If you have never been to an Autoshow, you should consider going. It is a real treat. I took my nephews with me this time and they had a ball. My oldest nephew, who 11 tells me that he was gone buy a car and drive me back and forth to school in it. (He is so silly). My younger nephew, who is 8, really thought he could drive. He was behind every wheel at the Autoshow. He asked me to buy every car ever made so he could go out and show them off to his friends. (BOYS!?!?!) I really would like to thank Northwood for inviting my family and me to attend the event. It was a great networking opportunity for me to meet prospective students and give them some advice about the college life. I believe that some people are uncertain with what they desire to do with their lives after they graduate from school. Being at the right place at the right time and making connections with others can inspire a person’s dreams.

North Midland Community Center & Share The Memories Fashion Show

Hello everyone!
I just wanted to update you on yet again, how many real-world experiences we can get just by being Northwood students!
The Northwood Fashion Group assisted the North Midland Community Center in putting together a fashion show to raise money for their teen program. I had the opportunity of being in charge of recruiting models over the past two months from local high schools and assisting them in finding the right dresses for them to wear for the show. The Share The Memories program in Midland donated nearly all of the dresses for the show. Another girl in our fashion group was in charge of scheduling local companies, and actual Northwood students that have previously been to cosmetology school, to come in and do the hair and make-up for the models.
The show itself went absolutely amazing and the attendance was nearly doubled from last year's show. Daily, I am astounded by the amazing opportunities that are available for me because of Northwood's ridiculous amount of connections. I am so happy to be here and to have these terrific opportunities that I know will help me once I am finally "out in the real world!"
