History Facts

Hey guys,

I was interested in doing some research on a President so I found a few facts about Mr. Lincoln. If you’re bored one day, get a group of friends together and discuss history to see how much you guys know. Like the saying goes “You learn something new every day”.

Non-serious Facts
• Abraham Lincoln had a dream predicting his own death. In the dream he heard crying in the White House. When he asked who the person that died was, he was told it was the President.
• Had a good since of humor. Loved to tell jokes.
o “If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?”
• He used to store documents and letters in his tall stovepipe hat
• He loved animals and wouldn’t harm any living creature. He had dogs, cats, and a turkey

Serious Facts
• Had 18 months of schooling after that he was self-educated by reading all he could
• Gave the Speech of Gettysburg Address that marked the end of the battle of Gettysburg and American Civil War at the Soldiers’ National Cemetery in Gettysburg Pennsylvania
• Initiated the ended of slavery on September 22, 1862 with the Emancipation Proclamation
• Served as a state legislator in Illinois, a member of the House of Representatives, country lawyer, and campaigned twice for U.S. Senate elections
• There are two Abraham Lincoln statues in the world, one is in his hometown in Springfield Illinois, and the other is on Northwood’s Michigan campus. For all of us lucky students and visitors who attends the Michigan campus, the statue is there for inspiration. In life you must have determination, and perseverance to achieve your goals and dreams just as Lincoln.
